Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Emily Rucker. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Emily , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience has always come from the Holy Spirit’s work in me and my identity as a Bride of Christ. Daily, I am reminded of my need to overflow out of His wholeness and presence which continually gives me the capacity to endure and adapt to His leadership. In mind, body, and spirit His presence gives me the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual capacity to endure beyond what I could expect, imagine, or put words to. This blessing of resilience is not without human experiences or hardships, but a resilience that endures above the stressors and emotions of life.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hey Everyone! My name is Emily Rucker. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-A in Houston, Texas. I own my own PLLC operating in Houston, where I serve clients and the surrounding communities both in a clinical and ministry capacity. My journey to becoming an LPC inspired me to eventually open up my practice where I can serve and empower my clients in the best way. This step as a professional continually requires me to trust, remain brave, and be willing to step beyond my vision and continue with this career in all the twists and turns.
I am a Christian therapist for adolescents, teens, twenties, and thirties in Houston, TX! I specialize in therapy for lasting change by helping my clients heal at the root of their anxiety and move forward in life alive, whole, and free.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three most important skills that have empowered me to take these next steps in my career journey are boundaries, patience, and sacrifice. Knowing my specific strengths and areas of need has helped me form boundaries around what I am able to handle on my own and what I need to outsource or seek help with. That skill has helped me continue to maintain energy and focus. Patience in this process has helped me release expectations of my own and helped me surrender to the timing and plan of the Lord in this process. The skill of sacrifice in building my clinical ministry has been a vital piece and has helped remind me that the service I provide and am working towards is not about me, but about what happens in others through the work of the Spirit in me.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
My biggest area of growth in the last twelve months has been choosing a focused niche in the mental health field and getting specific training in that area to better my own practice and the healing process for my clients. As a counselor, it is tempting to feel like you need to provide help to every kind of person, but through my experience, I have found that focusing on the type of client you are meant to help and getting deeper training to do so is the most beneficial both for the client and the clinician.
