Meet Kim Darling

We recently connected with Kim Darling and have shared our conversation below.

Kim , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

At 19 was painting in the studio at night while everyone else was out partying and heard a voice in my head say this is exactly what I need to be doing.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Living hard, loving intensely, collaboration, curatorial projects, mark making, adventuring, amplifyling other voices and creating socially engaged projects. Resident artist for the state of Nebraska, national curatorial and exhibition projects, travel.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Being adaptable, meeting people from differing lifestyles and experiences, listening to stories and learning skills.
Follow your gut, swallow your anxiety , get out of the house, spend time resting and in nature, listen , try things even if you fail. Get messy. Develop a kin group that you can trust. Have fun.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

Donna Harraway, Octavia Butler, Astrid Lindgren

“Our task is to make trouble, to stir up potent response to devastating events, as well as to settle troubled waters and rebuild quiet places.”
― Donna J. Haraway, Staying with the Trouble: Making Kin in the Chthulucene
