We recently connected with Elizabeth Perdomo and have shared our conversation below.
Elizabeth, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found purpose through my own journey as a domestic violence survivor and as a woman of faith. Those deeply personal experiences shaped who I am and opened my eyes to the urgent need for support, understanding, and empowerment for others walking similar paths.
My faith gave me strength, hope, and a vision for something greater. It was through healing and reflection that I realized my pain could serve a greater purpose—to uplift others. That realization led me to found Beacon of Hope Support Services.
Through this work, I strive to empower individuals by providing access to informational resources, education, advocacy, and a consistent commitment to their growth and healing. My purpose is rooted in creating spaces where others feel seen, supported, and inspired to reclaim their own voice and future.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m the founder of Beacon of Hope Support Services, a purpose-driven organization dedicated to empowering individuals affected by domestic violence and other life-altering challenges. As a survivor myself and a woman of faith, my journey has been deeply personal. I turned my pain into purpose, and that purpose is now the foundation of everything I do professionally.
At Beacon of Hope, we focus on equipping individuals with the tools, resources, and support they need to move from crisis to confidence. Our mission is rooted in education, advocacy, and long-term empowerment. Whether it’s through community workshops, resource fairs, or personalized support, our goal is to create spaces of healing and hope.
What truly sets us apart is our holistic approach—we don’t just serve survivors; we also work with those who have caused harm. One of our signature programs, From Harm to Healing, is a workshop designed for offenders. It focuses on recognizing and understanding emotions, taking accountability, and learning healthy ways to respond—especially knowing when and how to walk away before conflict escalates. We believe that breaking the cycle of abuse requires transformation on all sides.
Another special initiative under our umbrella is Esencia Latina—a space created to celebrate resilience, identity, and community within the Latinx population. Esencia Latina honors cultural roots while providing a safe, affirming environment for healing, connection, and empowerment. It’s about embracing the fullness of who we are while creating culturally relevant support systems that speak directly to the unique challenges and strengths of the community.
We are also proud to offer monthly workshops that are free and open to the community, in collaboration with Clark Square. These workshops focus on practical tools for healing, personal growth, and education, and are designed to meet people where they are—offering support, connection, and knowledge in a welcoming environment.
What makes this work so meaningful is witnessing transformation—when someone rediscovers their voice, builds confidence, or simply feels seen and valued. These are the moments that affirm why Beacon of Hope exists.
We’re currently preparing for three major events:
A Beacon Against Abuse 2nd Annual Resource Fair on July 19, 2025, which brings together service providers, advocates, and community members to share essential resources and foster connection.
3rd Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Walk, (October) a powerful community event dedicated to raising awareness, honoring survivors, and standing united against abuse. This walk is more than just a physical journey—it’s a public statement that domestic violence has no place in our homes, our relationships, or our communities.
Our First Annual Gala on November 15, 2025—a special evening dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of those we serve and honoring the sponsors who make our mission possible. We are actively seeking sponsors to help make this event a powerful and memorable celebration of resilience, hope, and community impact.
At the heart of Beacon of Hope Support Services is a deep commitment to healing, justice, and restoration. We believe that everyone deserves a life filled with dignity, belonging, and possibility—and we are here to walk with them on that journey.
“Lighting Your Way To A Better Tomorrow”
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been resilience, empathy, and vision.
Resilience allowed me to keep moving forward even when the path was difficult or unclear. As a domestic violence survivor, there were many moments when giving up felt easier—but something inside me kept pushing. I’ve learned that resilience isn’t about being unaffected by challenges; it’s about continuing to show up, heal, and grow through them. For those early in their journey, my advice is to give yourself grace. Strength isn’t always loud—sometimes it looks like quietly choosing to try again.
Empathy has been the foundation of everything I do. Being able to truly see and listen to others—not just their words, but their pain, hope, and humanity—has allowed me to build trust and serve in a way that’s meaningful. If you want to develop empathy, start by being present. Listen without the intent to fix. Let people tell their stories in their own way. This kind of compassion will not only make you a better leader—it will deepen your relationships and impact.
Vision is what helped me move from surviving to leading. I had to imagine something greater—not just for myself, but for the people I serve. Vision gave birth to Beacon of Hope Support Services and continues to guide everything we do. For anyone starting out, I’d say: take time to reflect on your “why.” What drives you, even when no one’s watching? Let that anchor you. Vision isn’t about having it all figured out—it’s about having a clear sense of direction, even if the road ahead is still unfolding.
No matter where you are in your journey, remember that growth takes time. Surround yourself with people who believe in your potential, stay rooted in your values, and never underestimate the power of your story.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The number one obstacle I’m currently facing is sustainable funding and resource development to keep up with the growing demand for our services. As Beacon of Hope Support Services continues to expand—offering new programs like Esencia Latina, offender-focused workshops like From Harm to Healing, monthly community sessions, and large-scale events like our upcoming gala—the need for financial and operational support has increased significantly.
While the passion and purpose behind our work are strong, building a solid financial foundation is essential to ensure that we can continue to serve our community long-term and with excellence.
To address this challenge, I’m actively working on building partnerships with sponsors and community stakeholders, applying for grants, and increasing our visibility through storytelling and outreach. We’ve also launched new efforts to engage the public—like our November 15, 2025 Gala, which will celebrate the accomplishments of our participants and honor the sponsors and supporters who make this work possible.
Additionally, I’ve been learning more about nonprofit development and seeking mentorship from others who’ve successfully built sustainable organizations. It’s a learning curve, but I believe with persistence, collaboration, and faith, we’ll overcome this hurdle—and come out stronger.
