Meet Aleisha Cappellano

We were lucky to catch up with Aleisha Cappellano recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Aleisha, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.

15 years ago, within a 6 month month period, I lost a close friend and a boyfriend to suicide and then 6 months later lost my father to a sudden heart attack. All three losses hit me really hard and I became severely depressed and felt very lost. I spent a good amount of time soul searching and trying to figure out who I was and what I wanted my life to look like and I came to the realization that life is extremely short and can be taken away in an instant. When that moment hit me, I realized I was no longer afraid to do anything. That when it was my time to go, I wanted to know that I had done everything possible and never let fear get in the way of my dreams and goals.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

After I decided I was no longer afraid to take risks, I booked my first solo trip to Europe and afterwards decided I was going to go forward with my dream to be a Professional Singer. I started a band with my best friend where we wrote all the music together and I managed and booked us. We did two big tours, played 8 states, attended Grammy week , played the Whiskey A Go-Go and even played Sundance Film festival. My band’s music was released worldwide and we had a great time. After 6 years the band went their separate ways and I started a new adventure of having my second child at 41 and moving across the country from Washington State to Maine. Once we arrived in Maine I decided to live out another dream of mine to open up a cafe that featured local products and supported other small businesses and I have been in business for over
a year now. Then last year, in 2024 I decided it was time to take back my health and I hired a personal trainer named Cyra at the Studio. While we chatted I told her about my secret dream to do a bodybuilding competition. Cyra said I could do the transformation portion and we got to work. After 10 months of hard work, determination and a total change of mindset, I lost 76lbs and competed in my first OCB body building competition where I placed first in my division. I love my new confidence and body and am now working towards competing in my first triathlon for my 45 birthday, in July.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Don’t be afraid to take risks. Life is way to short and can end at anytime so book that trip, compete in that sport, paint that picture. Do whatever it is that you have been dreaming about because only YOU can make your dreams a reality.
2. You are stronger and more capable than you can imagine. There will always be doubters and voices telling you that your dreams are too big. Don’t listen to them. With hard work, determination and drive, anything is possible. Do your research, know what you want and make goals for how you will achieve them. Remember, at the end of the day, you only have you so don’t let others determine your worth. You can do this!
3. Don’t Give Up. There will always be obstacles, road blocks and sacrifices. Know how much and how far you are willing to go to make your dreams and goals happen. None of it will be easy but anything worth doing, takes work. Keep going.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

My weight loss and body building journey has been one of the hardest I have experienced. Losing 76 lbs didn’t happen over night and I had to change my entire mindset and it was really hard. I grew up in an era that said starving yourself and eating less would make you skinny and in turn make you liked more and be more confident. I spent so many years starving myself and miserable and kept getting more and more unhealthy. When I met Cyra, she taught me that it was ok to eat, that food is fuel and there is no reason to feel guilty about feeding our bodies. She also taught me strong bodies make us healthier and it does take work but we don’t have to do it alone. Ive been a lone wolf most of my life and learning to trust my coach, be honest with her and myself and reprogram my brain has taken a lot of work, work I will do the rest of my life but I feel so much healthier physically and mentally now.
