Meet Christa Pharo

We were lucky to catch up with Christa Pharo recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Christa, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I get my resilience from the belief that I didn’t come this far just to come this far. Resilience, for me, came from facing each challenge that came my way and realizing I could get back up. Every one of those challenges showed me that I was stronger than I thought.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am Christa born and raised in South Jersey where I still reside with my daughter, Aubrey. I have always had a passion for hair and food/travel from a very young age. I completed Cosmetology school during my high school years. Over the last 22 years, I have worked in every aspect of a salon and even venturing out to work in New York City. 4 years ago, I found my Salon home at Splashes Salon in Tuckerton, NJ. Working beside the most incredible team of women. Along my ventures, I always had a passion for good food and travel. After hoarding food content over the years, having my first restaurant invite and an awakening travel experience with my best friend Ashley. We both decided to take the leap and start our own food & travel pages. I started my @Forkindishes Instagram and Ashley started hers @epps_travel_adventures in June of 2024 as well. Within a couple of months, things really took off. Restaurant collaborations and followers started to flood in. Over the last year we both built a wonderful network with friends, restaurants and experiences.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three qualities that really set the tone in my journey were adaptability, communication, and self-awareness.
Sometimes things do not go as planned. You have to be flexible and be able to pivot when you have to. Change can lead to opportunities and you have to have an open mind. Say yes to something that scares you. That’s where you grow.
Communication is a big one. You have to be clear and ask the right questions but also able to listen.
Self awareness. Know your strengths, own your blind spots. Always be willing to learn and evolve. Lastly, make sure you take the time to reflect.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

I would spend it traveling with my daughter, family and friends, eating good food and enjoying as many experiences as I can.
