We recently connected with Amy Brooks and have shared our conversation below.
Amy, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Throughout my life, whenever I encountered struggle, heartache or challenges, I went to God in prayer. My faith is where I have found my purpose for all the roles I have in life.
As a young student, I struggled to discover my identity. I wondered who I was, if I had talents and what I could do well. Slowly I realized that my Catholic Christian faith was an incredible guide and that prayer is an amazing tool, weapon and gift.
I discovered that no matter where I am in life that God has a plan that is uniquely for me. I love seeing how God has given others a plan that is unrepeatable and incredibly significant. It is in my faith that I find my purpose every day.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I love bringing Catholics together in friendship and fellowship. We are not created to navigate this life alone; and each of us can thrive if we surround ourselves with others who desire to live a whole and holy life.
As the Founder of Prayer Wine Chocolate, I have found that Catholic women feel reignited and refreshed after spending time together to pray and be social. I have seen creative Catholics thrive when they meet other Catholics on a mission to spread the love of God and the hope of heaven to others. I wrote the Be Yourself Journals because I needed help discovering my identity as a tween and the best way to find out who you are is to discover who made you and why. As a member of the Catholics Online community, I want to continue to be who God is calling me to be and having a community that desires that same goal is so helpful.
I am so excited to see more in person events happen with both the Prayer Wine Chocolate ministry and the Catholics Online community. Sharing are gifts online is awesome; sharing our gifts in person is spectacular!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that have helped me succeed are:
1. Faith over fear. There are so many voices that can intimidate and discourage us from doing good work. It’s best to believe that with God all things are possible then jump into action. Truly God can do anything, we just need to trust Him.
2. Think outside the box. Do things differently and be open to the ideas of others. Use your imagination. Chances are what the world needs is something completely different – don’t be afraid to try ideas that are new.
3. Be an innovator. So many times my motivation to create something or organize an event has come from the fact that I didn’t have the resources to do it a way that was already established. Perhaps poverty is the father of innovation much like necessity is the mother of invention.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I have built both my ministry and my business through networking and collaboration. I am always looking to collaborate with Catholics who desire to foster Catholic friendships and who believe that our parishes need more opportunities for events that mix prayer and fellowship.
I would love to see the Be Yourself Journals used in more schools and religious education programs. They are a perfect anticipatory set for teachers of the middle school grades.
Finally, I would love for Catholic content creators, artisans, podcast hosts, ministry leaders and business owners that focus on teaching, nourishing and spreading the Catholic faith to reach out to me and consider joining the Catholics Online community.
