Matthew, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?

My generosity comes from within me, and that’s because I have a big heart. I like to show up for people in my circle and will do anything for them because that’s who I am as a person. When you grow up not being valued or constantly being used, it does make you see things differently and you then act differently because of it.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My name is Matt and I have been a freelance model for the past 6 years now. What started off as a hobby (and still is), the dream is to make a career out of modelling.

I love modelling because it allows me to express myself in such a creative and artistic manner. Being a model wasn’t something I had ever thought of doing because I lacked so much confidence within myself and at the time I was managing my friend who had more knowledge and impact within the industry.

I’ve focussed mainly on fashion but in the past year, I have also indulged in other areas such as skin care and home fragrance products. Being versatile has allowed me to collaborate with different brands and companies, giving me the opportunity to branch out and gain new skills.

I am now ready to enter a new chapter regarding modelling as I am now actively working on being signed with an agency.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Patience, perseverance and confidence are the three main qualities I would say were very important to me and my journey. My advice to anyone who is willing to start their journey as a model, is to have patience and to be confident (although confidence can come to you overtime). Always believe in yourself and know what you can bring to the table. Do not rely on anyone to help you achieve your goals, but mainly have fun and enjoy your journey.

Everybody’s journey is different, so do not compare yourself to someone who has been in the industry longer than you. Networking will always be your best friend – this is how you can get an insight on how the industry works, and allows you to make friends and also learn about what niche you fall into.
