Meet Korto Roberts

We recently connected with Korto Roberts and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Korto, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?

I prioritizes self-care through activities that boost my confidence and provide mental clarity. Doing my makeup and “dolling up” is a key part of my routine. I love to make myself feel good.
I sometimes enjoy recording video of my makeup routine which allowed me to express my creativity.

Additionally, I values free journaling as a way to process my thoughts and emotions. This practice is particularly helpful when I am already in a self-care mindset, allowing myself to dive deeper into my inner feelings and gain a better understanding of myself. Both activities contribute to my overall well-being by nurturing self-esteem and promoting a sense of calm and reflection.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Well, what do I do to be exact? 😅🤣 I am a black own small business owner. I created the brand Handbyko_lin which is a cosmetic line. I created this brand during COVID-19 however before that I have been thinking about creating a cosmetic line. I enjoy doing my own makeup. Yes, I said “mine” not other lol 😆 I mean sometimes I do others makeup however I prefer doing my makeup and not others. I cherish and respect every MUA out there. It takes time and practice to perfect your skills.

For me, the most exciting or special thing about makeup is actually the process. I love to see the process of makeup. Makeup is a process, you can’t rush the look or idea. You got to start from “What is that?” To “OMG” there is a huge different between “What is that?” When you’re going through the process of doing your makeup. Where your mind go blank and stop working for a moment because you no longer understand how you got there. The end result of “What is that” is my favorite part. Taking in the moment of “OMG” with a big smile on my face when I get done with my makeup is my inner child being proud of the process I went through.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

For me, it’s all about being adaptable, learning quickly, and understanding what people need. If you’re starting out, try to stay curious and keep learning, be open to changing your approach, and really listen to the people around you. That’s what helps me the most!

Keep asking questions and exploring new things, don’t be afraid to try different approaches, and always listen to what others have to say. That’s how you’ll grow the most!

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed, I take a moment to break things down into smaller steps and tackle one thing at a time. It helps to focus and not get lost in the big picture. Taking short breaks, change environment, listen to music, read one of your favorite books, and take a rest (nap) can also make a big difference! Taking a nap or resting your eyes will help your mind be at ease.
