Meet Lauren (Lo) Cohen

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lauren (Lo) Cohen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren (Lo) , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My work ethic is something I credit to my father. He was a business owner for most of my life, and I watched firsthand the dedication it took to build something from the ground up. Along with my mom, he opened multiple locations, managed a large staff, and created a successful business that thrived for over 30 years — all while serving incredible food and building a loyal community.

What inspires me most is that when my dad no longer felt fulfilled in that role, he had the courage to pivot. He chose to pursue something he truly loved, and in doing so, he became a happier, more grounded version of himself. That decision taught me that success isn’t just about hard work — it’s also about following your passion and being brave enough to change direction when life calls for it.

Watching both of my parents wear many hats — as business owners, leaders, and caretakers — instilled in me a deep respect for the superpower of being multifaceted. We don’t have to be just one thing. In fact, our ability to embrace many roles and evolve over time is often where our greatest strength lies

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

At the heart of my photography work is a passion for capturing people in their most genuine, expressive moments. I specialize in photographing couples, families, brands, and events — with a particular love for creative collaborations that feel playful, soulful, and real. Whether it’s an intimate wedding, a vibrant concert, or a lifestyle session for a small business, I bring over a decade of experience and a documentary-style approach that prioritizes connection and storytelling.

In addition to photography, I offer web and brand design consultations for creatives and small business owners looking to bring cohesion and clarity to their online presence. From visual identity to user experience, I love helping people translate their work into a brand that truly feels like them.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three qualities have been especially impactful on my journey as a photographer:

Following my intuition – Whether it’s choosing the right equipment to support my workflow or sensing the energy of a potential client or collaboration, I’ve learned to trust my gut. It’s led me toward the right investments, the right people, and the kinds of projects that align with my values and creative vision.

Authenticity – Staying true to who I am has been non-negotiable. I don’t aim to be for everyone — and that’s intentional. I want to work with people who connect with my style, my energy, and my perspective. Whether it’s a couple, a brand, or an artist, if it’s not a match, that’s okay — they’re just not my people.

Consistency – Showing up even when I’m uninspired has been key. Creativity naturally ebbs and flows, but staying committed to my process — even during slumps — builds trust with my clients. It shows that I know my craft, I respect the work, and I can deliver high-quality results with care, no matter what.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal client:
Right now, I’m especially excited to work with non-traditional couples and anyone who lives a little outside the norm. I’m drawn to people who challenge the status quo — the ones who throw tradition out the window and choose what feels right to them.

Whether it’s a couple eloping on a desert cliff instead of walking down an aisle, or a business owner building something meaningful and giving back to their community — these are my people. I’m here for the wild ideas, the intentional choices, and the stories that deserve to be told with care and creativity. I can’t wait to collaborate.
