Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ren O. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Ren, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I didn’t find my purpose at once but I did believe I must have one. To be the only me on a planet floating in space didn’t feel random. I spent time in nature and listening to myself. I studied mindfulness practices so that I could tune into my inner wisdom. I learned to observe myself and others so as not to take things so personally. I was always drawn to nature, the mystical and the spiritual, from the time I was young. I spent time looking up at the clouds, drew pictures of castles and unicorns and allowed my imagination to fuel a lovely playfulness that still lives in me. This playfulness was also necessary for my survival because I didn’t feel like I fit in anywhere. I kept looking for validation and a home outside of myself and could not find it. Once I learned to be still and to listen, the knowing came in waves. I started by taking counseling courses, then moving on to working in University settings as a Counselor and Facilitator in classrooms. I shifted into private practice therapy when the resonance with my work no longer felt aligned. I started a healing business when I heard my inner voice saying that there was more to healing than talk therapy. Studying things like energy work, sound therapy and various paths to love felt like home. That is my advice: listen, move towards what feels like home and take action. We are always becoming if we are committed to growth and living with aligned purpose.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
For as long as I could remember I have felt things deeply: the state of the world, the energy of situations and of other people. My intuition was strong. Messages seemed to ‘come in’ through my inner knowing, kind of like a thought, but it was always loving and wise. When I was young, I was told I was “too emotional, too sensitive and too much” so I turned it off for a long time. I was determined to be more like every one else, to blend or fit in. It didn’t work, though, and I was not feeling satisfied or happy, even when surrounded by other people or while I was supposed to be having fun. I determined that what was missing was my connection to my inner spirit and that I was not meant to try to fit in. I don’t think any of us are meant to be exactly like anyone else because we are our own unique blend of personality, characteristics, experiences and divine spark.
During 2020, things really started to crumble around me. I was diagnosed with three Autoimmune Diseases and could barely get out of bed. I felt a real identity crisis come on and started asking questions like, ‘Why am I here? What is the point of all of this? Why am I feeling unsatisfied?’ It was scary and I made sure to get support. With the help of therapy and a mentor, I began the process of releasing all of the parts of myself that were not authentic or true about me – the parts I created to survive or to fit in. I studied and became adept with inner child healing and shadow work and was able to release tendencies like people pleasing, rejection and abandonment wounds. I kept going – teaching and learning at the same time – and slowing began to build my business with a sense of lightness and joy. Blending skills from intuitive talk therapy, somatic (body wisdom) practices, energy work, sound healing, and hypnotherapy helps me to honor both my intuition and skills while empowering others. I help people find their way back to their inner knowing and to recognize the power of their choices. There is nothing more satisfying than to see my clients connect to who they truly are as divine, empowered beings and to help them craft their next aligned steps.
I offer a lot of things: 1-1 mentoring and coaching through spiritual awakenings and wound healing. I offer in person sessions in Kalamazoo, as well as Zoom from anywhere. Energy is everything so what I do works just as well virtually. I offer a Women’s Circle that is a sacred container for connection and healing. I would love to offer more Circles to assist with healing, coming back to inner wisdom and nature, and stepping into joy. I offer hypnotherapy sessions, sound healing, Reiki energy healing, Tarot and Oracle card guidance, Human Design Reports, chakra balancing and soul origin work. I also offer corporate events to help regulate the nervous system, sound healings and guided meditation journeys, and sacred movement practices. My work feels like doing all of my favorite things and then sharing how they might help others so they, too, can feel the joy and excitement I feel about life. If folks are ready to come home to themselves, to unlearn conditioning and to step into their true joy and purpose, I am honored to walk with them.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I am naturally intuitive and my knowledge base is vast because I have studied trauma-informed counseling techniques, psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, hypnotherapy, Human Design, spirituality, energy work and sound healing. But if I’m honest, I think I would not have persevered without the following qualities:
Resilience + Self Compassion
Learning to sit with my emotions — especially the uncomfortable ones — without judging or abandoning myself was life-changing. Early on, I thought healing meant getting over what happened to me. Now I know it means being with myself throughout all transitions, moments and seasons of my life. If I am too tired one day, now I say something. If I feel sad, I allow it and explore it. I also think resilience is the ability to get back up when you feel defeated – when you see that things are not working out the way you expected but you decide to accept that and dust off and try something else. It is important to be kind to yourself when you feel you have fallen. Life often brings unexpected people and circumstances and we cannot always accurately predict the outcomes. I used to blame myself when things weren’t going well or the way I expected and that felt like a punishment on top of the disappointment I already felt. It was draining my energy. I started to sit with myself for a few moments and breathe. I started EFT (tapping) and pranayama (yogic breath) and Qigong practices to help myself release the dense emotions I was feeling. I began to ask myself what I needed often and then I gave it to myself. One day I needed a lunch break to walk, another day I needed to listen to my favorite music. As I started releasing those dense feelings, I was able to reflect from a place of kindness and curiosity, I started to realize that some of the rejection I faced was on purpose – a door closed so another could open. I decided to keep going and walk through the next door. And then the next door. There was often better than I planned waiting for me there. That is emotional resilience and self compassion in motion.
My advice: Start small. Meet your emotions with tenderness. Learn the difference between pushing past or through pain and gently walking yourself through it. Self-compassion is a muscle — build it lovingly, one choice at a time. If something is falling away or not working out, stop forcing it. It isn’t for you. When something is aligned for your overall wellbeing you will not have to push the closed door open. You can center, stay calm and look for the open door. You can learn to love and respect yourself which will draw in experiences that match your desires and goals. We are not created to suffer, we are created to have many kinds of experiences, to connect to ourselves and others, and to learn. These experiences can be more gentle when we flow with things like timing, synchronicities and the signs that have meaning to us.
Discernment
Once I stopped outsourcing my worth and started tuning into my own inner guidance, everything began to shift. Developing a relationship with my inner wisdom and my divine team helped me access a deep well of trust — not just in life, but in myself. I learned to stop seeking validation outside of myself and to expect that people would understand my intentions or needs. I began to speak calmly in ways that were diplomatic and fostered connection instead of separation. I set and maintained boundaries that were healthy for me and started to create space for my own joy. Now my work is fulfilling and joyful and I love creating customized sessions for clients as a natural extension of what really lights me up. Discernment is also the ability to pause and check in with yourself when you are getting direction or advice from another person. I learned that other people, even people I admire who are in a position of power or authority, cannot help me decide what is best or appropriate for me. Only I know what feels inviting, or what can feel like an exciting or creative use of my skills and time.
My advice: Create your own little sacred practice to connect to your inner guidance. That might be through using sound frequencies, meditation, journaling, time in nature, or using divination tools. Take 3 deep breaths and move your consciousness from your thinking mind to your heart center. Listen to your body and your energy. Ask what you want and need from that inner meeting place. You don’t have to “earn” access to your intuition — it’s already inside you. Let it speak.
We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
I believe the idea of being “well-rounded” is one of the biggest illusions we’ve been sold — especially for sensitive, intuitive, and creative beings. I was trained in the StrengthsFinder Assessment in Omaha, Nebraska, and it confirmed what I’d always felt: we’re not here to be everything to everyone — we’re here to embody our unique brilliance.
Trying to smooth out our edges to be more palatable or “balanced” dilutes our magic. It leads to burnout, people-pleasing, and constant self-correction — especially for those of us who already grew up being told we were too much or not enough. But when we honor our innate gifts and go all in on them, we unlock our true impact.
For me, that meant finally embracing the way I’m wired: deeply intuitive, spiritually attuned, emotionally intelligent, and creatively grounded. I’m not meant to fit into narrow boxes. I help people feel safe in their sensitivity, release long-held pain, and awaken their inner power. And the more I lean into those gifts — not by fixing my “weaknesses,” but by trusting my strengths — the more doors open.
Your light is not a problem to solve. It’s a gift to share. Go all in on it.
Who I love working with & how to connect
I love collaborating with therapists, healers, teachers, and spiritual seekers who are ready to go deep, shed old conditioning, and live more soul-led lives. Whether you’re on your own healing journey or you’re stepping into your purpose as a guide or teacher — I help you connect to your truth and shine.
My ideal clients are kind, curious, and spiritually open. They may feel like their lives are a bit out of balance or that they are the “too sensitive one” — but they carry incredible wisdom. Together, we create a space where they feel safe, seen, and empowered to become who they truly are.
I offer one-on-one sessions (in-person or Zoom), retreats, Reiki classes, and intuitive mentoring.
