Meet Iman Serbones

We recently connected with Iman Serbones and have shared our conversation below.

Iman , so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
You’re one of one in this world. Discipline, self-determination and open-mindedness are key factors on a journey to self-improvement and success. Each person’s journey is unique, each person is unique, and being the only one in the room that looks like me is something I use to my advantage. I know myself and my style well, and can use that to express myself, my art and connect with people genuinely.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Iman Serbones is an multidisciplinary photographer with nearly a decade of experience covering events, products, and everyday life. Her work has been featured on Voyage Magazine, CanvasRebel, and Black and Queer AF ATX. With a lifelong passion for community building and art, Iman combines the two to help her communities tell their story. When she’s not working, Iman volunteers with local organizations in her city.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Networking, consistency and the willingness to learn. I’ve shadowed photographers whose worked I’ve admired and learned of the many ways to connect with people from them. As a photographer, capturing natural moments on camera for clients not only shows the photographer’s passion, but the way that they are tuned into the moment and genuinely enjoying that moment, too. With my most recent project, I connected with the performers, understood their movements to naturally flow into that, and it reflects in my work. The friendships I’ve made from photography alone is incredible, and I’m excited to see how far I and the people I’ve met can go.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, of course! Aways happy to collaborate with folks. I’ve worked with businesses for product photography, concert venues for sporting events and graduations and lifestyle shoots, but I am not limited to that. If you have an idea and would like to work with me, please, send me an email or follow my social media and I’d be happy to work with you and bring that idea to life!
