Meet Ararat Vardanyan, Founder of Argo Houses / Real Estate Investor & Agent

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ararat Vardanyan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Ararat, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

My optimism comes from a deep desire to create a bright and meaningful future for my family. I’ve always believed that with the right mindset, challenges can become opportunities, and that belief drives me forward every day. Knowing that my actions today can shape a better tomorrow for the people I love keeps me focused, motivated, and hopeful, even during difficult times. I also try to approach life with gratitude, which helps me maintain a positive outlook and see the potential in every situation.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m the founder of Argo Houses, a real estate investment company focused on identifying undervalued properties, creating opportunities through thoughtful renovation, and helping bring new life to neighborhoods. What excites me most about this work is that it’s not just about properties – it’s about people, potential, and transformation. Each house has a story, and our goal is to unlock its value in a way that benefits both investors and communities.

My journey into this field didn’t begin easily. I came to the U.S. many years ago from another country, full of hope but also facing the unknown. The beginning was incredibly difficult – adjusting to a new culture, starting from scratch, and trying to build a future without a clear roadmap. But what carried me through was a strong will and a mindset that never allowed me to give up. I pushed through challenges, learned as much as I could, and kept moving forward even when it felt like the odds were against me.

For a long time, I struggled to find balance between work and life. I wore many hats, juggled responsibilities, and made sacrifices. But through that hard work, I found my way into real estate investing—a field that not only aligns with my skills and passions, but also gives me the flexibility to be more present for my family and friends. That balance means everything to me.

I started Argo Houses because I saw a gap in the market – too many properties sitting untouched, while families and individuals were struggling to find quality, affordable housing. I wanted to build something that not only generates strong returns, but also makes a positive impact. We’re hands-on with every step of the process, from acquisition to renovation to resale or rental, and I take pride in staying involved, strategic, and intentional.

While I also work as a real estate agent, my main focus is growing Argo Houses and continuing to scale our investment projects. We’re currently expanding our footprint, exploring partnerships, and building a team that shares our vision for smart, sustainable growth.

At the heart of everything I do is the belief that real estate is one of the most powerful tools for generational wealth and community development – and I’m proud to be part of that process.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three qualities have been most impactful in my journey:

1. Resilience. I never stepped back, even when the beginning was incredibly difficult. Starting a business, especially in real estate investing, comes with uncertainty, rejection, and risk. But I stayed committed and kept pushing forward, even when progress felt slow or overwhelming. That persistence has made all the difference.

2. Willingness to Learn. Real estate is an ever-evolving field from market trends to financing strategies to renovation details. I had to be willing to learn constantly, ask questions, and accept that I didn’t know everything. For those just starting out, I’d say: stay humble and curious. The more you learn, the more confident and capable you become.

3. Taking Action Without Waiting for Perfect Conditions. Early on, I realized that waiting for the “perfect” time, deal, or circumstances often leads to inaction. I learned to move forward with what I had, make smart decisions with the available information, and adjust as needed. Progress happens when you take the first step even if it’s not perfect.

My advice to anyone starting their journey: trust yourself, stay consistent, and don’t be afraid to learn through experience. You’ll grow with every challenge and surprise yourself with how far you can go.
