Meet Anuja Mehra

We were lucky to catch up with Anuja Mehra recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Anuja , so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?

Building something that doesn’t fit into a familiar mold often invites doubt, both from others and sometimes even from within. When I started Tinted Heritage, not everyone understood the vision. Creating culturally rooted home decor inspired by South Asian traditions, made in the U.S. and designed for modern homes, wasn’t something people saw every day.

Some questioned whether there was even a market for it, especially outside of festivals or cultural holidays. But over time, I realized that not everyone needs to understand the idea. What matters most is connecting with the people who do.

The purpose behind Tinted Heritage has always been to bring stories, tradition, and warmth into everyday spaces. That mission gives me clarity and momentum, even during the slow seasons or moments of doubt. I think persistence comes from staying close to your “why,” showing up with intention, and remembering that even small wins are meaningful.

This journey has taught me that you don’t need to convince everyone. You just need to keep creating with heart and stay true to the story you’re telling.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m the founder of Tinted Heritage, a design-forward home decor and gifting brand that brings South Asian aesthetic into everyday spaces in a modern, meaningful way. Each piece is hand-drawn and designed in the U.S., crafted in small batches, and rooted in cultural storytelling. We blend traditional South Asian motifs with a contemporary touch, helping people celebrate heritage not just during festivals, but throughout the year.

What makes Tinted Heritage special is that it is built with heart and intention. These are not just products. They are conversation starters, thoughtful gifts, and pieces that reflect identity, belonging, and beauty. From hand-illustrated mandala slate coasters to Indian – inspired wine charms, everything is designed to feel personal and lasting.

I started this brand as a mom of two, often working in the quiet hours after bedtime. Being a mompreneur has shaped how I run this business. It has made me more focused, more resilient, and deeply aware of the importance of creating something meaningful. I want my children to grow up seeing that it is possible to build something rooted in culture, creativity, and purpose.

Right now, we are expanding beyond seasonal collections to offer more year-round pieces that reflect modern South Asian living. We recently launched our Rakhi collection, which includes our best-selling ForeverTies—Rakhis that can be kept and reused as fridge magnets. We are also preparing for our Diwali release, which will include our first signature candle, Hues of India, with a warm and luxurious scent inspired by saffron, jasmine, cedar, and amber.

At its core, Tinted Heritage is about honoring where we come from and creating something beautiful for where we are now.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three qualities that have made the biggest impact on my journey are resilience, curiosity, and storytelling.

Resilience has been essential. There are quiet seasons, slow sales, and moments where it feels like no one is paying attention. In those times, it’s easy to question your purpose. But staying in it, showing up anyway, and trusting the long game has made all the difference. For anyone early in their journey, I’d say expect setbacks. Don’t let them define your next step. Keep going, even if it’s at your own pace.

Curiosity has helped me grow as a creative and business owner. I didn’t have a background in e-commerce or product design. I learned by doing—by watching videos, experimenting with tools, asking questions, and staying open to change. My advice is to remain a student, always. Even a little progress each day adds up over time.

Storytelling is the thread that ties it all together. Whether it’s through product descriptions, social posts, or design choices, being able to clearly express your “why” is powerful. It helps people connect not just with what you do, but with who you are. For those just starting out, don’t worry about being polished. Focus on being honest. Share the process, the inspiration, the journey. That’s what people remember.

No path is linear, and no one has it all figured out. The best thing you can do is stay rooted in your values and keep learning as you go.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been personal. As a creative entrepreneur, I realized that mindset is just as important as strategy. I started diving into Bob Proctor’s teachings, and it completely changed how I view my potential and the role belief plays in what we’re able to build.

I’ve learned that success begins with what you believe about yourself. I began practicing manifestation not just as a buzzword, but as a daily mindset, visualizing where I want Tinted Heritage to go, aligning my actions with that vision, and trusting that I am capable of making it real.

This shift has helped me take more intentional risks, stay resilient through slow periods, and dream bigger than before. When you truly believe in what you’re building, you stop waiting for external validation. You start creating from a place of clarity, purpose, and quiet confidence.
