We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jess Coale. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jess below.
Jess, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
OOf this is a good one. I struggled with self confidence and self- esteem issues for the majority of my life. I felt small, ashamed of who I was, picked on constantly, laughed at for what I showed interest in, belittled in every way. I couldnt figure out for the longest time what was wrong with me. I carried that insecurity with me for YEARS before I had a complete overhaul of my life a few years back and realized a major key; There is absolutely nothing wrong with me. Sure, I have faults that I can work on and will always continue to work on because no one is perfect. However, beginning the process of actually loving myself was what changed the game. I worked on self affirmations every day including saying to myself “I love you”, ” I can do this”, and “I am awesome”. Then it turned into mirror work which is looking at yourself in the mirror and saying those same affirmations everyday. I also wrote out everything I was good at and worked hard to make that into my career so that I never have to do anything I am not passionate about again. All of these small shifts helped form me into the strong woman I am today. Knowing that I am loved by myself proves that even though its great to be loved by other people, that I dont have to seek that out externally in order to feel it. I am it.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Jess and I am a Licensed Esthetician, Photographer, Makeup Artist, Breathwork Instructor, and Podcast creator. I was also an Esthetics Instructor and successfully graduated and passed 100% of my students with the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology before moving to Nashville at the end of 2024. You may also know me as The Rock N Roll Facialist, as I provide Esthetics and relaxation services to touring musicians and crews. I am very passionate about the music industry professionals so providing these services is my way of giving back to those who’s music has helped me through every moment in my life; good and bad. I also love to photograph shows so you may see me along the rail in the pit getting as many photos as possible and soaking in the magic. Photography has always been a love of mine spanning from street photography, live shows, branding photos, and more; but getting to shoot musicians and crews in their environment is what is absolutely magical to me. The energy exchange between the band and the crowd is palpable and getting to witness and capture all the smiles, tears, and passion up close never gets old.
Makeup has also been one of my artistic avenues and I love getting to provide makeup services for brides, bridal parties, girls night out, photoshoots, etc. as my way of helping others feel beautiful and confident for life’s fun moments. The big reveal with the mirror after the makeup is set, is always a wonderful moment and to see the confidence kick in for that client is what it is all about.
I actually just recently got my certification as a Breathwork Instructor and teach group and individual classes to help people with their own breathing techniques. We are all a part of such a fast paced society filled with anxiety and not a lot of mental health support so I am proud to offer this service to assist people in taking back their sovereignty and showing them how breathing techniques can help to support physical health, mental health and emotional health. I have some really fun offerings regarding this topic coming soon so keep an eye out on my instagram page @artist.to.the.artists for more!
My podcast “the soulrocker” podcast is coming soon- it has been a slow and steady project amongst many others, but this is where I get to share a more in depth look into my life, what has rocked my soul, good and bad, and to show others that no matter what you’re dealing with in life, you are stronger than you know and that you can get through anything. It is educational, eye opening, and supportive. All things that I have learned along my life’s journey and I cannot wait to share them all with you 😉 Keep an eye out for that as well on instagram @thesoulrocker.
Last and definitely not least, I have another big project that I am working on with a friend of mine that is geared towards mental health support within the music industry. I can’t share yet but the goal for it to be released will be in the fall so stay tuned and tell all of your music friends there is something special coming for them 🙂

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Number 1 I would say is to trust your gut. Learn to acknowledge and sit with your initial instincts and discern between whether its fear trying to creep in, or if you have an internal warning that needs to be addressed.
Number 2 is get comfortable being uncomfortable. Growth doesnt happen without movement. Just like going to the gym once doesnt make you a body builder. Showing up for yourself is the biggest thing you can do that will propel you in so many different ways in your personal and professional life. Being comfortable is great, but if you are wanting more, you have to get comfortable not being comfortable.
Number 3 is don’t be afraid of failure. Yes it can be very defeating and incredibly uncomforable but you will never know if you don’t try. Maybe that particular strategy works for some but didnt work for you. Does it suck because you put in so much work with zero to low return? 100% . But now you can cross it off your list and move on to the next one. Keep going!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking for people to partner or collaborate with! I love being able to highlight other artists who’s talents compliment what I am doing. With all the services I provide, I love working with tattoo artists, massage therapists, other photographers, hair stylists, yoga instructors, health and wellness advocates, other makeup artists and estheticians, musicians, techs, vocalists, models, etc. The list goes on. If you are a creative, I would love to work with you! Feel free to reach out on my instagram @artist.to.the.artists, my email: [email protected], or my website: www.therockrollfacialist.com
