We were lucky to catch up with Anahi Estrada recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Anahi , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Imposter syndrome is something I struggled with more often than I’d like to admit. Imposter syndrome is a persistent feeling of inadequacy and the belief that success is undeserved, despite clear evidence of your success or competence. Often times, imposter syndrome says, “You have to do it perfectly to be good enough.” There were many times while running my business that I put off projects or ideas because I didn’t feel capable to execute them. I was constantly waiting for the right time- but the reality is- there will never be a right time. The most important thing I’ve learned while navigating imposter syndrome is this: The voice of doubt isn’t truth- it’s just fear. Our mind is very complex and having thoughts of self-doubt is natural; however, those negative thoughts don’t define our worth or our potential.Being an entrepreneur means taking risks and betting on yourself, even when imposter syndrome tells you you’re not ready. By reading self-help books, listening to podcasts, reframing my mindset, and strengthening my relationship with God, I have expanded my perspective and sparked growth within myself. The road to overcoming imposter syndrome isn’t linear, but taking small steps a day toward a better you proves that you’re more capable than your doubts.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Lush Beauty began in 2018 as a home-based lash extension business. As my love for beauty grew, I decided to pursue a career in the esthetics industry and became a Licensed Esthetician in 2022. The business started out by only providing eyelash extension services and later expanded to providing facial treatments, lash lifts, and coming soon- eyebrow services!
While this is a beauty-based business, it’s not only about aesthetics. I created this brand to empower and make others feel more confident in themselves. During esthetician school, I suffered from cystic acne and it took a toll on my self esteem. I remember being so embarrassed to leave my home and wanting to isolate myself from friends and family. Acne not only affects you physically, but mentally and emotionally. I sought out to dermatologists and they often took a bandaid approach to my skin concerns, prescribing antibiotics that ultimately did more harm than good. I decided to take a different route and started seeing an esthetician who was able to clear my skin holistically. She gave me my confidence back and I wanted my business to do the same for others. Beauty gives us confidence because it goes beyond the surface- it reflects how we feel, how we express ourselves, and how we connect with others.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
As an entrepreneur, it is important to believe in your business and know its worth. It isn’t just a skill- it’s a mindset that helps you lead with confidence and advocate for yourself. Whether it’s a product, a service, or an experience, you have to be genuinely passionate about what you offer. I’ve always remained authentic and aligned my personal beliefs to the values of my business.
Another important skill to have as a business owner is adaptability. In 2020, my business was affected by the pandemic and I had to shut down numerous times. While I could’ve allowed this to discourage me, I instead stayed compliant with county regulations and remained optimistic throughout this time of uncertainty. Once quarantine restrictions were lifted, I enrolled in esthetician school and found new ways to grow my business. After being in the industry for seven years, I have witnessed the evolution of esthetics first hand. I’ve seen shifts in trends, consumer habits, and the market. In any industry, change is constant and it’s important to adjust accordingly. Continue to educate yourself, stay informed, and develop a strong mindset.
As a business owner, resilience is one of the most important qualities you can develop. There have been many instances where I made mistakes or my ideas didn’t turn out the way I wanted them to. When I relocated my business to a new city, an issue I faced was a decrease in bookings. This was extremely difficult to navigate through because my business was my only source of income at the time. I had to get a second job to make ends meet and eventually worked a third job for some time. I did whatever I could to keep Lush Beauty alive because it is an extension of who I am. When you’re passionate about your dreams, you learn to face any adversity head-on because giving up isn’t an option. Don’t be afraid to fail. Failing allows you to develop the mental strength needed to navigate future challenges. Use those failures as an opportunity to grow and learn from those experiences.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was believe in me and support my dreams. They have always encouraged me to follow my heart and pursue what truly makes me happy. My work ethic is a direct reflection of their sacrifices and the values they instilled in me, and I carry their example with me in everything I do.
