We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Patrina Dixon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Patrina below.
Patrina , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
My purpose emerged from a personal journey of growth and determination. I started by facing my own financial challenges and realizing how much I didn’t know about managing money. I actively sought out advice and resources, carefully applying what I learned to improve my financial situation. With each step forward, my confidence grew as I experienced real progress.
As I gained clarity, I felt compelled to share what I had discovered with others. Helping friends and family opened my eyes to a deeper calling: empowering people to take charge of their finances. This inspired me to write a practical book grounded in my experiences, focusing on the importance of introducing financial education early, especially in high schools. The positive response to my book motivated me to create It’$ My Money, a company dedicated to providing individuals of all ages with the knowledge and tools to achieve financial independence.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I run It’$ My Money, a financial education company where I facilitate workshops for businesses, nonprofits, schools, and community groups. What excites me most about this work is seeing people transform their relationship with money and gain the confidence to make smarter financial decisions. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch individuals, from high school students to adults, take control of their finances and feel empowered to create a better future.
Beyond workshops, we’ve built a supportive community that offers monthly grants for small businesses and shares curated resource lists on the 15th of each month to help entrepreneurs and individuals access tools for financial growth. This ongoing effort to support and uplift others is what makes our brand special and constantly evolving.
For me, It’$ My Money is more than a business, t’s a movement to educate, inspire, and equip people with practical money skills. We’re always working on new programs and opportunities to expand our reach and impact, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the three qualities that had the biggest impact on my journey were resilience, a willingness to learn, and purpose-driven determination. Resilience helped me push through doubts and setbacks, especially when I faced hesitation and uncertainty early on. Being open to learning allowed me to seek out knowledge, experiment with new strategies, and grow my financial skills step by step. And having a clear sense of purpose kept me focused and motivated, even when the path wasn’t easy.
For those just starting out, my advice is simple: just do it. Don’t wait for everything to be perfect before you begin. Take action, learn from your mistakes, and make adjustments as you go. When you stay connected to your purpose, it will guide you through challenges and keep your passion alive. Trust yourself and the process, progress is made by moving forward, not standing still.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I remind myself that growth is a step-by-step process, not an instant leap from A to Z, like my husband always says, “you go A through Z.” I focus on breaking things down into smaller, manageable tasks instead of trying to tackle everything at once. It helps me stay grounded, especially when I’m juggling personal responsibilities, work, and building my business with limited resources.
I also lean on my support system and seek out trusted people or tools to guide me, which reduces uncertainty and helps me make better decisions. And when self-doubt or past mistakes creep in, I practice self-compassion and remind myself that setbacks are part of the journey, not the end of it. My advice is to be patient with yourself, take things one step at a time, and remember that progress is about persistence, not perfection.
