Meet Tammy Termure

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tammy Termure. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Tammy, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

I believe that the way you talk to yourself matters. Confidence grows when you start to believe that you can succeed. Doing scary things or the act of just trying then realizing it wasn’t that bad after you got through it. For instance, I dreaded being in front of the camera and making a video for advertising. Over time I am getting more comfortable and gentler on myself/Truth be told a little proud that I actually did it. Being uncomfortable sometimes builds courage and in turn build confidence. The small wins are where it’s at.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My business partner and I launched a small retail bin store. The concept isn’t new, but we added our own boutique spin on it. A bin store is a discount store that sells name brand products at very low prices. Bin stores use inventory from liquidation, which means they buy products that are overstocked, returned, or damaged from other retailers. Bin stores have a “Treasure Hunt” feel, as customers have to search through large containers or bins to find the items they want. Bin stores are popular among bargain Hunters. We added a boutique feel and we are all about customer service that includes carry out service to your car. We rock customers babies and have developed relationships with our customers. It’s a modern way to shop with the nostalgic charm your grandparents experienced.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think you need to have #1 Emotional endurance. Building a business is an emotional roller coaster, we have slow days and are learning what works and what doesn’t. We are constantly trying to think outside of the box as to what we can do to set ourselves apart. Finding the ability to stay in the mindset and forge ahead even when you’re tired and spent.
#2 You must have the ability to learn and unlearn. We are constantly shifting what we do to fit the need or demands of the business. We try new things and pivot of something doesn’t go as planned. one must be curious and flexible in your business.
#3 is very important and I think is the key to our success so far. People skills. listening, talking and connecting to customers. We have developed a sense of family and friend’s atmosphere with our customers.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

The line of business we are in deals with a lot of inventory and our brick-and-mortar space is small. We are always challenged with utilizing the space to make it feel good and not feel overwhelming. We are constantly looking for ways to display items and store items and stay organized. We are 2 women show from unloading the truck to clean-up crew to running the register and greeting the customers, Including the advertising videos we do and processing the inventory. It’s a full-time job and takes a well-oiled machine to make things go as smoothly as possible. which even the most well thought out plan will go sideways on occasion, and you have to pivot to accommodate.
