We were lucky to catch up with Brian Thorne recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brian, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from past experiences. I used to work a string of very difficult jobs in the past, and I’ve always thought to myself I was learning something then I’d need for the future. It was true and it was resilience. I’m in a place now where I get to work on more creative projects that I’m very passionate about. It still requires me to get up everyday and work long hours but I think back on my past experiences and I draw resilience from there.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I recently moved to Atlanta, Georgia this past February. I came to focus on my business, create more content, and seek opportunities as a model. Since moving here I definitely lost the plot. I think now more than ever though I’m starting to feel aligned with the purpose and goals of me moving here. Definitely had to pick back up where I left off on my healing journey first. It’s been a very inspirational journey for me so I know my community and small corner of the internet that we occupy is proud as well.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
If I had to narrow down three things that have helped me to be successful I would say knowing when to push myself, allowing others to support me, and believing in myself. I moved here immediately after losing my Mother to cancer and graduating from college so hitting the ground running wasn’t a reasonable thing for me to do. But when it was time for me to show up, I did and I’m thankful for that. I also would’ve never left Houston if it weren’t for my family friends and online community. Lastly believing in myself to me means a level of calculated delusion. I had to believe in myself before I had the results or the credentials. I’ve always had a plan but putting it into action some would say was delusional.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Personally I do believe in the separation of church and state because religion and spirituality is a very complex and dynamic topic to cover. But if I’m going to answer this question honestly it’s the Bible. There are plenty of chapters of my life that will never get read aloud, but it was a blind faith and servitude to a higher power why I’m still here today. Psalms 91
