Meet Brandy Wentz

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brandy Wentz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brandy below.

Brandy, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I think a solid work ethic learned and developed. As a child, everyone around me worked, multiple jobs, and it just always something I knew that I would do…. work. I did not grow up with the luxury of convenience and ease. If I wanted something, there was no $20 bill handed to me. I was doing chores and laundry and and babysitting, cleaning the house from the time I can remember. So initially I would say, money was a motivator when your young. And that still is a factor of course, life is not free, but now for so long my work and the challenge’s that have presented themselves feels so much better when I know I have earned it. Something that can’t be bought is hard work and the feeling you get when it’s done and you actually accomplished something.

I can remember my mom when we were kids, biking us to day care so she could work 2 and 3 jobs, on a ten speed, my brother on the back in a seat and me strapped to the middle bar, I assume most of my work ethic comes from that woman and the standards she set for us. It was never, you can’t…. it was always, if you want it, work for it!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am Brandy Wentz, I am not sure what that always had meant, but as I get older and challenge myself, I learn more everyday about who I am and what I can and can not do, or should I say, choose to do. I come from humble beginnings’, as so many of us do. I was blessed with the ability to connect to people. I didn’t love Math, or Science, or Economics’. But I did love being present with people and I understood that I had to do the work to find those other parts I loved. I was lucky enough as I got older to save and have a lot of support around me. I was able to put myself through college and find a career at age 23. I was in the beauty industry for 24 years, owning and operating my own salon for 17 years. This opportunity is what made me who I am today. Learning to be self employed and all the things that come with that, because no one does anything for you. You have to do the work to earn it when you are self employed. I was blessed with a skill set that I encouraged with training’s and practice and that let to a busy salon for years. Once I felt I had done all the things I could do in the field, I moved on the next great opportunity in my life with Beau Anderson and Eden Property Collection. This included a bar that he accidently purchased (LOL) and now together with our team, we have created something Iron Mountain never knew they were missing. It’s been a tremendous journey, both professionally and personally. Best thing ever to happen, and trust me, this was solely based on personality and work ethic! The Sandstone Terrace is one of the coolest and most challenging experiences I have ever done!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Don’t Be Scared of Change! It’s the only constant. When it happens, you have to be ready to move, jump, bend, or help. It always is best to be ready and prepared.

Don’t burn bridges. I have learned this the hard way, more than once. Life is life, so always do your best and if it doesn’t work out, move on gracefully and be proud of your character!

Always do the right thing and follow your gut. Sometimes the hard thing and the right thing line up, dont shortcut it, never worked for me….. ever. And ladies, particularly… listen to the voice inside, she will never steer you wrong.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

Currently, my life has shifted to making sure the work/ life balance is present. I have always focused on two things, work and fun. Work Hard Play Hard, my motto for years.

If I had one decade left, I would spend it with the ones I love and who inspire me, and I would travel and make sure my niece had all the best parts of me, seeing as I have no kids, she will get whatever advice or nonsense I have to offer. I would also make sure to balance the work life with my personal life better. Recently I have found someone that loves me as much as I love him, So my last ten years would be spending it with him and those around me that I value more than anything, because without these people in my life… I would not be who I am. 100%!
