Meet Myna Davis

We were lucky to catch up with Myna Davis recently and have shared our conversation below.

Myna, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

With social media being so prevalent, it’s easy to give into “trending” styles. Some ways to try and keep my creativity alive is by designing and coming up with my own style. When it comes to flowers, I can let me creative mind flow and make beautiful pieces. That’s why I’m glad I own my own floral business. I don’t have someone dictating how I should create.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I own a small floral business in Shakopee, MN. When I first started my business, I went into it with the thought that I wanted to brighten other people’s day and make them happy with my arrangements. Now 2 years into my business, I’ve expanded and now offering services into events and weddings. I would like to consider myself a wedding florist and I completely love it! I didn’t sway from offering bouquets and arrangements, because I still create them for my customers. But my main focus are weddings and events. My brand is known for creativity and affordability. I let my customers know that I’m able to create something beautiful for them without a higher cost. I’m happy to find ways to stay within my client’s budget and come up with ways to be more cost effective.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

When I reflect on starting my floral business, it’s clear that my determination to succeed and achieve my aspirations was the driving force. I pride myself on my determination, creativity, and an ongoing eagerness to learn. The beauty of the floral business is the continuous opportunity to acquire new skills and refine techniques; I’m always finding ways to simplify and innovate. Having been immersed in this industry for over two years, my understanding of florals and design techniques has blossomed immensely.
My advice to someone starting out is be opening to learning more. Also, don’t stop believing in yourself. The only person that can stop yourself from succeeding, is ultimately yourself.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

For me, the ideal client relationship is one where I’m given the freedom to be creative and propose innovative alternatives that best suit their vision. I also deeply appreciate clients who prioritize open and consistent communication, as this truly enhances the final outcome.
