Meet Krystal Brown

We recently connected with Krystal Brown and have shared our conversation below.

Krystal, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I found my purpose after going through depression Anxiety I learned I had adult ADHD. I was always doing inpulsive things not really wanting to listen or wanting to take constructive criticism from others. I did however find myself wanting to help others and always wanting to fix things (wearing a cape in other words.) I learned that not everyone needs or wants the help including myself. I took that cape off and put on different cape that cam in the form of an aprin.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My name is Krystal, I’m a cook\chef. I started out cooking when I worked for Houston ISD. That is where my passion for cooking started. The counting, the batch cooking, the serving, the portions etc. I had a wonderful kitchen manager at the time by the name of Sandy Washington. She was patient and understanding. Lord knows I was a misunderstood individual. I really got my feet wet when I started working at different restaurants as a line cook. I honestly just wanted to stay in the back of the house because that’s where the action was. (Lol) I’m a shy person but, I love to put smiles on the faces I cook for. Cooking gives me the motivation to want to thrive and do more. Cooking is not just a job for me it’s a satisfying affirmation. After going to therapy and finding out I have adult ADHD Anxiety and depression. I had to find out what really makes me happy and come to terms as to why I’m here on earth.
Cooking is what saved me. I found that when I’m in the kitchen I’m in my zone and nothing can stop me. Trial and error is what also shaped me. Learning to except that I can’t be afraid of what others think. I had\have to acknowledge my mistakes in order to make things right the next time. That not only helped me in life, it also saved my dishes from burning up (lol.) My mom Doris Parker is also the reason I wanted to cook for other people. She taught me how to make my first meal which was hamburger helper and cornbread. It wasn’t much but thats where I learned to read cooking directions. (Lol) She was goin to start her own business but life happened and it didn’t come to pass. That’s where I come in. I was goin through alot at the time and that’s where a light bulb went off in my brain. “You’re supposed to be a cook\chef.”! That’s when Poet’s Grub came to me. The name came from when I used to do poetry and music and I’m also a Leo. I put the names together and BOOM! there it is. It became just a thought at first but it most definitely turned into a reality. I learned to step out on faith and didn’t look back. Poet’s Grub was Born June 3rd 2023. The best thing that has ever happened to me besides getting married to my Partner \Best friend, advisor ambassador and investor Takisha Wilson-Brown. I want people to feel like their at home when they taste my cooking. They say home is where the heart is . I say it starts with a home cooked meal. Not only do I want to make meals I want to make memories.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

My qualities are team work, patience and staying focused on the task at hand. Skills for me comes with practice. Practice doesn’t make perfect practice makes provisions.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

The ideal Client for me would have to be someone who is funny, understanding ,patient and willing to let me freestyle their meals. NO I’m not saying they have to like whatever I cook for them but, let’s plan out a menu together of their likes and let me go from there. I love older clients as well. They always have the best stories to tell. Children would be the best because some are picky eaters I can definitely pursue them to eat their veggies lol. It would be a dream come true to have a client that lived out of state.
