Meet Ammoni Isby

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ammoni Isby. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ammoni below.

Ammoni , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

Being the only one in the room who looks like me hasn’t always been easy, but it’s taught me how to carry both grace and power at the same time. I’ve learned to see my presence as a strength, not a disadvantage. My voice, my perspective, and my lived experiences are valuable, even if others don’t immediately understand them.

To be effective, I ground myself in preparation, prayer, and purpose. I walk into every space knowing who I am and whose I am. I represent not just myself but every young Black woman who dreams of stepping into rooms that were never built with us in mind. I remind myself that being the only one doesn’t mean I don’t belong. It often means I was sent to shift the atmosphere.

I’ve learned how to speak up with confidence, lead with integrity, and hold my head high, even when I feel unseen. I stay focused on the impact I’m called to make, trusting that my authenticity is the key to opening doors for others and sustaining my success.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m a Creative Director and the Director of Voice and Vision at Revamped, a modeling and creative agency focused on bold expression, storytelling, and empowering talent. Alongside that, I’m a content creator, model, and makeup artist. I’m constantly moving between beauty, fashion, and media, and I absolutely love it.

What excites me most is getting to bring ideas to life. Whether it’s a concept for a photoshoot, a makeup look that makes someone light up, or content that connects with people in a real way, everything I do ties back to creativity with purpose.

Right now, I’m working on some exciting new projects that blend editorial storytelling, strong visuals, and community. I love creating moments that feel intentional and inspiring. I truly feel like I’m just getting started. There’s so much more to come.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three things that have made the biggest impact on my journey are creativity, confidence, and adaptability.

Creativity has always been at the center of everything I do. Whether I’m behind the scenes directing or in front of the camera modeling, being able to think outside the box and bring a vision to life has opened so many doors for me. For anyone starting out, I’d say don’t be afraid to experiment. Create just to create. Let your ideas breathe before you judge them.

Confidence has helped me stand tall in rooms where I may be the only one who looks like me or the youngest in the space. It doesn’t mean I always feel sure, but I’ve learned to trust what I carry. If you’re new to your journey, practice speaking up. Honor your voice, even when it shakes. The more you show up as yourself, the stronger your presence becomes.

Adaptability has kept me grounded when things don’t go as planned. Life shifts, opportunities come and go, and sometimes the vision changes. Being able to pivot with grace while staying rooted in purpose has been a game changer. For anyone early in their journey, stay open. Be willing to learn, unlearn, and grow. Your path may surprise you in the best ways.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

The people who have been most helpful in my journey are my mother, Marcia Isby, whose quiet faith and steady strength have been my safe place and my anchor. Kourtney Galloway has been a guiding light, believing in me even when I struggled to believe in myself and opening doors I didn’t know I could walk through. And Kylah Mays, a dear friend whose creativity and honesty remind me every day to stay true to who I am, even when it’s hard.

But beyond all of them, it is my faith that holds me close in the moments of doubt and pushes me forward with hope and purpose. My faith is the whisper that reminds me I am never alone on this journey.

Each of these blessings has carried me through challenges and shaped the woman I am becoming, inspiring me to keep stepping into my calling with courage and love.
