Meet Michael Thibodeau

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Michael Thibodeau. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Michael, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Growing up I was always the smallest kid in class, had to navigate food allergies and had asthma. So all that being said I believe my parents and siblings went out of their way to make me feel empowered whenever they had the chance. Probably laughed a little harder at my jokes and supported me tremendously through my smaller achievements. Between that and growing up in the arts, I was able to believe in myself and not be afraid to take risks. That continued to develop throughout my life. That being said, confidence comes and goes given the challenges we face.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m a Creative Director and Producer based in Richmond, VA, and I run a video production company called The Sunroom. Right now, we’re in a really exciting chapter where we are developing our first full-length documentary while continuing to make music videos with artists we genuinely love.

My creative partners Alec Gary and Ryan Gary and I started The Sunroom back in 2022 because we wanted to create the kind of production company we always wished existed. A warm, inviting, and collaborative space where artists could feel seen and supported. A place where creativity isn’t boxed in by ego or rigid rules, but where big ideas are encouraged and made real through film. A place where all our artistic voices could be heard and respected.

My team and I believe the world needs an escape right now more than ever, and film, especially music videos, is one of the most powerful, underrated ways to offer that. These short-form visual stories have the power to move, uplift, and inspire in just a few minutes, and we treat them with the care and intention they deserve while pushing the boundaries and creative ways we can approach each project. Plus, music videos are just simply awesome.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The most impactful knowledge I’ve gained through out the years would definitely being able to communicate your needs, being present and truly listening to others and being grateful overall.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

I have been on projects and life changes this past year that have forced me to go out of my comfort zone. Getting to the other side of some of those experiences has instilled a lot of confidence and motivation for me. I’ve worked with artists of all kinds that have inspired me and I look forward to continuing to seek opportunities that take me out of my comfort zone moving forward.
