We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jazz The CEO. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jazz The CEO below.
Jazz The CEO, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
As a Black , Gay , Female in the security industry I am most often the only one in the room, in the meeting , in the security walk throughs etc. You would think that would be something that would discourage me or intimidate me but instead I use it as a super power , a bargaining tool, a motivation to conquer. There is truly only 1 you so why not embrace that and create a path for others, or build a bridge or relationship that can impact those to come.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am the owner of After Hourz Security, we are a Security, Investigations, and training company in the DMV. I am a MD state , NRA, and MPCTC certified instructor for Firearms, security, and Private detectives. I am an author and public speaker that focuses on the art of De escalation. My course run everyday online and in person, thats how much I love training the next generation of protectors.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back I wish I had the vast free and paid training I offer my officers when I was starting out in the field. I dwell on training soft and hard skills because they are both equally important to becoming a well rounded protector. I don’t just hire and throw individuals into the wilderness I make sure they have what they need mentally, physically , and environmentally. If you are starting out in the security industry my advice is to keep training and not just firearms and running and gunning but soft skills such as De escalation , customer service , situational awareness and things like the above mentioned to keep yourself adaptable in the field.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The book that has played an important role in my development was ” FROM 0 TO 35 ” De escalation Tactics, Techniques, and Tips to use before ever pulling your weapon. Which was written by me! The book is about 35 different ways I was able to De escalate situations without getting hurt or hurting someone else. It catapulted my confidence in the market place , especially in those rooms where I’m the only one that looks like me. I have something to say and publishing my book helped me get that out all over the world from the DMV to France. It is the foundation of my de escalation and security training course that I offer, It also has transcended industries from security to bartenders, to daycare staff having to deal with irate parents. That book reminds me that with a little bit of empathy we can solve our biggest problems.
