We were lucky to catch up with Kez Sinoro recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kez, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Being the only one in the room who looks like me is something I hold with pride. It’s a powerful opportunity to represent women of color, especially Filipinas. For me, it’s never just about saying the right words, it’s about speaking and acting in alignment with my authentic self, while staying grounded in my intentions. I don’t shrink to fit into spaces; instead, I lead with the fullness of my identity. Over time, I’ve learned to use my voice with clarity, confidence, and purpose — knowing that my presence carries weight and may one day inspire someone else to do the same.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m the lead designer and founder of Life with Flowers Event Design, based in San Diego. What began as a passion for florals and art blossomed into a full-time business two years ago. Since then, I’ve had the honor of designing over 70 weddings. It’s incredibly fulfilling to be part of such meaningful moments, and I never take for granted the trust my clients place in me to bring their dream celebrations to life.
In addition to running my own company, I’ve partnered with Bonaparte, a destination wedding venue and planning company. This year, we’re excited to launch a refreshed brand that will serve clients around the world seeking beautifully curated destination weddings.
I also recently launched a collective called Ladies Who — a community-driven platform with a mission to empower and celebrate women through thoughtfully curated experiences that blend art, design, culture, and meaningful connection. The vision is to build a community of women from different walks of life who lead, launch and live boldy.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Resilience. Life’s journey is rarely straightforward. It’s filled with twists, turns, and sometimes dead ends. What I’ve learned is the importance of staying strong-minded and being driven. While dead ends are inevitable, what truly matters is how you navigate them, turn around, and find a new path forward.
Faith. Sometimes it might feel like you’ve fallen into a black hole, too deep to climb out. But having faith and believing that things will get better is what keeps me moving forward.
Grace. Give yourself grace for the choices you made with the resources and tools you had at the time. The only thing within your control is your future. The past is behind you. So shift your focus to what you can do in order to build and create things that bring you joy and purpose.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Over the past 12 months, I’ve been fully focused on who I’m becoming. I set out on a journey to understand myself more deeply—spiritually, emotionally, and intentionally—so I could grow into the highest version of myself and show up with more love and presence for those who matter most. It’s been a season of both unlearning and relearning.
I’ve embraced my femininity and deepened my connection to self. I no longer seek validation or acceptance from those who aren’t aligned with my energy. Instead, I’m choosing to pour love into those who choose me. Because when you feel safe within your own presence, you stop needing to explain yourself.
I’ve come to realize: I am the creator, the writer, and the director of my life. And it all begins with the relationship I have with myself—because that relationship sets the tone for everything else. I am in solitude and I am at peace.
