We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ekaterina Dzyuba a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ekaterina, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Developing self-esteem and confidence for me was a gradual journey that grew with experience and age. As a child, I was never naturally confident, despite participating in various competitions in sports and arts. Over the years, I started winning more first places, and those successes gradually helped me realize that believing in myself and putting in effort could lead to positive results.
When I launched my own business at 23, I didn’t initially think I could succeed, and I had many doubts. However, my strong desire to make a difference in the world and to provide value to my clients gave me the motivation to keep pushing forward. I learned to trust my abilities through trial, error, and perseverance, even when I felt exhausted or faced mental challenges. Each small victory and lesson learned strengthened my self-esteem and made me more confident in my abilities. Today, I understand that confidence is built step by step, through resilience, self-belief, and continuous effort.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hello everyone! I’m excited to share my story with you. My name is Katya, and I come from a small town in Russia. From an early age, I understood that I wanted to bring something useful into this world and leave a positive mark behind.
Since I was 14, I’ve been passionate about nails—it’s been my way of expressing myself as an artist. By the age of 23, after overcoming many challenges, I was able to open my first nail salon in Kurland, Washington. Our salon has now been operating for two years and continues to grow. We are currently in the process of expanding because we truly want all residents of Washington to experience and enjoy high-quality service and professional manicures.
In addition to that, we are developing an online school so that any nail technician can learn our techniques and provide excellent service to their clients. We are also launching an online store where professionals can purchase high-quality, non-toxic, and durable materials.
We’re passionate about elevating the standards in the nail industry and sharing our expertise with others. I believe that quality service and continuous learning are key to success, and I’m excited about the future of our brand and the opportunities to serve our community even better.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, there are many qualities that have been impactful in my journey, but the three most important are:
The ability to multitask and be present everywhere at once. If you’re starting your own business or project, you should be prepared for a period where sleep, rest, and peace of mind will be limited—at least for the first couple of years. During this time, all the responsibility rests on you. However, this also provides a valuable opportunity to learn every detail of your business and fine-tune it exactly how you want. Eventually, others will come who, based on your experience, will be able to replace you and continue driving the business forward.
Knowing clearly what you do and offering. You must understand exactly what you’re offering and how you plan to sell it. Wanting everything to happen at once is natural, but unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. You need a clear action plan and a solid understanding of who you are and what you do.
Not fearing challenges and not giving up. Your path will be filled with moments where you’ll want to give up and stop trying. But life tests your resilience in those moments. You should learn to make quick, clear decisions and face problems head-on. When you approach challenges with determination, success will follow.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Of course, my close loved ones have helped me deal with many problems, but it was my team that truly helped me develop certain skills and knowledge. Over the past few years, we’ve faced many different situations, and as you start your business, believe me, after a couple of years, you will run it completely differently. So, as I mentioned earlier, don’t be afraid of challenges.
Your team is the key to success. If you manage to build a strong and resilient team, your business will thrive and grow. However, if there is a weak link in the team—a “lame horse”—it can drag the others down and even jeopardize the entire business. Building a reliable team is crucial, and their strength will be your foundation for success.
