Meet Sierra Gomez

We recently connected with Sierra Gomez and have shared our conversation below.

Sierra, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Building confidence, whether in your artistic abilities or in your day-to-day life, can be challenging. It’s something that doesn’t always come easily. For me, one of the most unexpected yet powerful ways I boosted my self-esteem was by going to the gym. It might sound a bit strange at first, but working out has been transformative, not just for my physical health, but for my mental and emotional well-being as well. It gave me a sense of discipline, control, and strength that carried over into other areas of my life, including my artwork. As I continued to draw, I began to notice a shift in how I viewed my own works. I realized that if I wasn’t confident in my work, it would be hard for others to see the value in it too. It was a reminder that belief in yourself is essential for growth and success.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am an artist/illustrator from Long Island who specializes in creepy horror works. The mediums I use the most are pen and ink, and acrylic paint. The most exciting thing about my artwork is the subject matter and the way in which I portray it. I find skulls really fascinating and they are a constant motif in my works to depict the juxtaposition between life and death.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I feel as though discipline, consistency, and passion were the most important qualities in my journey as an Artist. The discipline of creating regularly, even imperfectly, built momentum and helped me develop my voice. When it comes to creating art passion fuels everything that makes art meaningful. My advice to other artists on their own journey, is to be confident in your work as well as yourself. Your artwork might not be for everyone so find your audience and constantly create and always be true to yourself.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

I believe my biggest area of improvement is my technical skill. For example my current work is more interesting and engaging with the viewer and more detailed. After graduating college, I have finally had enough time to focus on the artwork that I enjoy to create and have also found my voice as an artist.
