We recently connected with Magic Singh and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Magic, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
My purpose didn’t come to me in a single, dramatic moment, it revealed itself quietly, over time. But if I had to point to a defining moment, it would be the day I stood alone in my childhood bedroom, holding a deck of cards not just as a tool of entertainment, but as a compass.
Growing up in a South Asian household in West London, tradition was heavy in the air, expectations of a stable career, modest living, and predictable routines. But I also grew up in a home rich in colour, rhythm, celebration and deep storytelling. Every wedding, every festival, every family gathering had a sense of magic already built in. I think I absorbed that magic before I even realised I was meant to create it.
I first picked up magic as a quiet kid who didn’t always feel seen. I wasn’t the loudest in the room, but I realised I could hold a room with my presence. Magic was the first language I spoke that made people pause, listen, and most of all, feel. At first it was just tricks. But then it became something deeper. It was connection. It was storytelling. It was Magic.
Still, the road wasn’t easy. There were many times I questioned if I was chasing a dream that had no structure, no map, and no approval. I struggled with the weight of carving my own path, especially when the blueprint for “success” around me looked so different. But in those moments, I leaned into a simple truth…when I performed, I felt aligned!.
I found my purpose not just in performing magic, but in becoming it. In embodying presence. In reminding people, if only for a moment, that the world still holds mystery, connection, and awe.
Over the years, I’ve realised my purpose isn’t just to entertain. It’s to elevate. To inspire. To stand as a symbol that you can honour your culture, your truth, your creativity and still build a life of impact. My turban, my presence, my performance, they all now serve something greater than myself. They serve people who’ve never seen someone like me do what I do and know it’s possible for them too.
Finding my purpose wasn’t about discovering something new. It was about coming home to who I’ve always been, then having the courage to live that truth, unapologetically.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Magic isn’t just what I do…it’s who I am.
I perform under the name Magic Singh, but behind that brand is a story that fuses tradition, identity, and performance into something entirely modern. I’m a British-born magician of Punjabi-Sikh heritage, and I’ve made it my life’s work to blend Eastern richness with Western stagecraft, to bring global audiences something familiar and yet entirely fresh. Whether I’m performing close-up magic for A-list celebrities or delivering a theatrical stage show in LA, every moment is rooted in something deeper human connection.
What I do may appear visual and instant, but it’s built on discipline, storytelling, and soul. Magic Singh isn’t just about tricks, it’s about transforming rooms, shifting energy, and creating unforgettable experiences. And perhaps most importantly, it’s about representation. I wear my turban with pride because it’s part of my identity and my art, it stands as a visual reminder that magic belongs to everyone! That wonder transcends language, background, and borders.
I’ve been honoured to perform globally, from the private villas of Dubai to sold-out shows in London and Los Angeles. I’ve built a loyal online following of over 2 million fans across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and beyond, where I share my love for magic infused with performances that are as meaningful as they are mesmerising.
But beyond the screens, something bigger is unfolding.
Right now, I’m deep in the creation of my first international touring stage show, a one-man theatrical experience that pulls back the curtain on my life, my culture, and the power of magic as a form of truth-telling. This show will blend grand illusion with raw personal narrative. It’s magic, yes, but it’s also theatre. It’s storytelling. It’s legacy.
At the heart of it all, I remain focused on one mission:
To inspire the world to believe in wonder again.
To prove that magic is not just a genre, it’s a force.
And that when performed with purpose, it can move people just as deeply as music, film, or poetry.
So whether you’re discovering me on your phone screen, at a live show, or through an unexpected encounter, just know that what you’re witnessing isn’t just performance.
It’s presence.
It’s intention.
It’s Magic Singh.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I’d say there are three qualities that have been absolutely essential in my journey, especially in shaping me both as a performer and a person.
First, it’s discipline.
I know it’s not the flashiest answer, but honestly, it’s the foundation. People often see the final performance, the smooth delivery, the reactions, the energy, but what they don’t see are the hundreds of hours that go into getting something just right. Early on, I treated magic like a craft that deserved serious respect. I’d rehearse endlessly, study body language, analyse audience reactions. Even today, I’m still refining. That kind of discipline has helped me stay consistent, even when the spotlight wasn’t on me.
Advice for others? Build structure into your day. Don’t just rely on inspiration, train like a professional. Make excellence your habit, not just your goal.
Second, emotional intelligence.
Magic, at its core, is about connection. You’re not just doing a trick, you’re creating a moment for someone. I had to learn very early on how to read people. Understand their energy, their mood, even the silent cues in a room. Whether I’m performing at a private party, or a festival or wedding reception, that awareness changes everything.
My tip for developing this? Spend time observing people. Listen more than you speak. Learn what makes people light up. The better you understand people, the more impact you’ll have, whatever your field.
And third, it’s vision with integrity.
For me, it’s never just been about going viral or chasing gigs. I’ve always been clear on why I do what I do. I want to break the mould of what a magician “should” look like. That sense of purpose has been my North Star, especially when things got uncertain or when the industry wanted to box me in.
Advice here? Take time to ask yourself some hard questions. Why are you really doing this? What do you stand for? What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind? That clarity will help you make decisions that align with who you truly are.
At the end of the day, if you’ve got discipline, emotional intelligence and a clear purpose, you’re already miles ahead. Everything else can be learned along the way.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Without a doubt, it was the Christmas of 1996.
I’ll never forget unwrapping this beautifully packaged box, it was the Marvin’s Magic set, but not the basic one you’d find on most shelves. This was the premium edition. High-quality props, beautifully designed gimmicks, and tricks that had real impact. It was unlike anything I’d ever seen, and for a young boy from a traditional Indian household in West London, it felt like receiving a treasure chest.
Looking back now, I realise that moment was bigger than just a gift. My parents didn’t just buy me a toy, they planted a seed. Coming from a cultural background where stability and structure were often prioritised, it would’ve been easy for them to steer me away from something as unconventional as magic. But they didn’t. They allowed me to explore it. They let me fuel that hobby, watching me rehearse for hours, perform for relatives at family gatherings, and slowly grow in confidence.
That one act of support, to give me something they may not have fully understood, but still believed in enough to invest in, was everything.
Fast forward to today, and that same passion has become my career. I now perform around the world, for celebrities, royalty, and audiences of all cultures. But it all started with that magic set. It all started with parents who gave me permission to dream differently.
And for that, I’m endlessly grateful.
