We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Phoenix Brown a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Phoenix, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
How I Found My Purpose: A Journey Through Grief and Growth:
Losing my mom and my husband’s grandmother within months of each other was a heartbreak I never saw coming. The grief was heavy, raw, and disorienting. My mom was my anchor—her love, her energy, her belief in me were constants in my life. And my husband’s grandmother, with her wisdom and warmth, had become a second matriarch in our world. Their absence left a silence that echoed through every part of my being.
In the midst of that pain, I found myself searching for meaning. I didn’t want their passing to just be a loss—I wanted it to be a legacy. That’s when Soulistic was born.
Soulistic started as a way to cope. It was my outlet, my therapy, my way of channeling the sorrow into something beautiful. I began creating t-shirts that radiated the kind of energy I wanted to feel again: peace, positivity, and soulful connection. Every design, every word, every vibe was infused with the love I had for them and the lessons they left behind.
What began as healing for myself quickly became healing for others. People resonated with the message. They felt seen, uplifted, and inspired. That’s when I realized: this wasn’t just a brand. It was my purpose.
Grief cracked me open—but in that brokenness, I found clarity. I discovered that my purpose is to spread good vibes and positivity, not just as a feel-good mantra, but as a way of life. Through Soulistic, I want to remind people that even in the darkest moments, there is light. That healing is possible. That love never dies—it transforms.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
What makes Soulistic special is the intention behind every piece. It’s not just about looking good—it’s about feeling good, inside and out. Each design carries a message of resilience, love, and light. I want people to wear Soulistic and feel empowered, connected, and uplifted.
Right now, I’m working on new drops that reflect growth and transformation, and I’m excited to bring Soulistic to more in-person events where people can experience the energy behind the brand firsthand. This isn’t just clothing—it’s a movement rooted in purpose, positivity, and soul.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three things helped me most on this journey:
Resilience – Grief doesn’t follow a timeline, and neither does building a business. I had to learn how to keep going, even when I felt like hiding. That inner strength became the foundation of everything I’ve built.
Purposeful Creativity – I didn’t want to just make t-shirts to earn money —I wanted to create something that meant something. Every piece in the Soulistic collection is designed to uplift and inspire, rooted in real emotion and lived experience.
The Courage to Be Seen – As a shy person, putting myself out there was terrifying. But I realized that vulnerability is powerful. The more I shared my story, the more people connected with it—and with me. That gave me the confidence to keep showing up.
To anyone just starting out: you don’t have to be the loudest in the room to make an impact. Start with your truth. Let your story guide you. And remember, that quiet strength is still strength.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The biggest challenge I face as the owner of Soulistic Clothing is putting myself out there and facing rejection. As a naturally shy person, it’s hard enough to be visible—but the fear of being judged, overlooked, or told “no” can feel paralyzing. Rejection used to feel personal, like a reflection of my worth or my work.
But I’ve learned that rejection is part of the process—not a stop sign, just a redirection. I’m working on shifting my mindset by:
Letting the brand speak first – I pour my heart into every design and message. When people connect with Soulistic, it reminds me that my voice matters—even if not everyone hears it right away.
Taking small, brave steps – Whether it’s showing up at a market, posting a vulnerable story, or pitching a collaboration, I’m learning to face discomfort with grace. Each “no” brings me closer to the right “yes.”
Building inner confidence – I remind myself that rejection doesn’t define me. My purpose is bigger than one moment of doubt.
