Hi Katrina, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I’d say my work ethic comes from my family, especially growing up in a Filipino household where hard work, resilience, and pride in your craft were just part of everyday life. I watched my parents give their all, whether it was a simple chore or in the kitchen making food for others. That deeply rooted sense of purpose and hospitality really shaped me. Now with Pippa’s Homebakery, I carry that same dedication into every cake I bake. It’s not just about making something pretty, it’s about pouring your heart into something that brings joy to someone else.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I run Pippa’s Homebakery, where I specialize in custom cakes that are made with heart, heritage, and a love for storytelling through taste and overall experience. From vintage-style cakes, Filipino-inspired flavors, and anything that feels a little nostalgic but still fun and personal. Every cake I make is one-of-a-kind and made-to-order, no mass production, just lots of buttercream, care, and creativity!

What’s most special to me is being part of someone’s celebration. Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, or just a little ‘treat yourself’ moment, knowing that something I made gets to be part of their core memory is what keeps me inspired.

Right now, I’m really excited to be growing the business and connecting more with the community. I’m planning to do cake decorating classes this summer, something I never thought I’d be doing! It’s been such a joy to share what I’ve learned and help others feel confident in the kitchen. There’s more to come, and I’m just so grateful for everyone who’s supported Pippa’s Homebakery so far. This whole journey has been a dream in progress

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Patience was a big one, I had to remind myself that things take time. Not every cake came out perfect, and I didn’t always know what I was doing in the beginning. But you learn as you go, and that’s okay.

Being flexible really helped too. Sometimes things don’t go as planned, orders change, batch bake fails (yes, it happened!) or your schedule just gets overwhelming. Learning how to adjust and not panic made a huge difference.

And honestly, just holding onto my ‘WHY’, which is making meaningful, joyful things for people and sharing a little of my culture through baking, keeps me going. For anyone just starting out, I’d say: take your time, don’t be afraid to mess up, and always come back to why you love what you’re doing and keep on going.

Don’t listen to anybody else but your heart, trust your gut and just do it!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Yes, I’d definitely love to collaborate, especially with folks who share a love for creativity, community, and good food. I’m always open to working with other small businesses, artists, photographers, event planners, or makers who are into thoughtful, fun, and meaningful projects. Whether it’s a styled shoot, a pop-up, or something more out of the box, I’m in!!!
