Nicholas, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience is deeply rooted in the values and experiences imparted by my parents. They are the most resilient individuals I know, having overcome numerous obstacles and adversities, including segregation and racism. My father, a graduate of Jones High School and Tuskegee University, has held various roles in education, ranging from teacher and coach to assistant principal and Director of School Disciplinary and Alternative Schools. My mother, hailing from Madison County in Florida and an alumna of Florida A&M University, has had a distinguished career as a librarian and was one of the first African Americans to serve as a head librarian in Orlando. Their journey of success, despite facing failures and handling those situations with grace, has been a source of inspiration for me. They have instilled in me the morals and foundation that shape who I am today.

So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In the realm of business, resilience is a huge quality. The courage to face failure head-on is essential. While outside opinions and advice can be valuable, the ultimate decision rests with you. Embracing boldness and differentiation is crucial to distinguish yourself from competitors and other companies in your sector.
Equally important is the ability to adapt. The capacity to pivot swiftly and seamlessly in response to changing circumstances is vital. Listening to consumers, investors, and partners ensures that you remain on the right path. A closed mind can hinder both career and business growth.
Another indispensable quality is class. This intrinsic trait, which cannot be taught, encompasses being a stand-up individual, a responsible citizen, and a compassionate person. Treating others with respect and empathy, giving back to the community, and supporting worthy causes are actions that yield long-term rewards. I am deeply grateful for the support of those around me, which has been instrumental in the success of Grace Gaming Group, a true family business.
To those at the beginning of their careers, I offer this advice: absorb all the knowledge you can. Engage with podcasts, books, and the wisdom of seasoned entrepreneurs. Learn from your failures, using them as stepping stones to improve yourself and your business. Strive to avoid repeating mistakes.
