We recently connected with Lauren Collorone and have shared our conversation below.
Lauren , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
As a descendant of Irish and Italian-American immigrants who came to this country with nothing, my work ethic is deeply shaped by the resilience and determination of my family. Many of my relatives worked tough, labor-intensive jobs—bricklayers, tin knockers for Grumman, truck drivers, and car mechanics—which instilled in me a profound respect for hard work. My parents, who built their lives from the ground up, taught me the value of perseverance and self-reliance. I learned the value of hard work from a young age, always seeing the effort and dedication required to achieve success.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Meet Lauren Collorone, a Long Island, New York native with a B.S. in Video Production from Fredonia State University and an M.F.A. in Motion Pictures from the University of Miami. Specializing in production design, producing, and all areas of the art department, Lauren brings a creative and versatile approach to every project she works on. As the owner of South Shore Studios, Lauren has turned her passion for design and storytelling into a business, and it’s her dream to grow and expand it into something much larger for the future ahead. What excites her most about her work is the opportunity to shape a visual narrative that complements and elevates the story being told. For Lauren, it’s a rewarding experience to see her concepts evolve from paper and pencil into tangible, immersive environments that directly influence the narrative of a film or show.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are respect, curiosity, and trusting my intuition. First, I believe in showing respect toward others—you’re never sure what someone else might be going through, and communication goes a long way in fostering positive connections. You really get more with honey than you do with vinegar. Second, I’ve always made it a point to learn as much as I can and never shy away from asking questions. Knowledge is power, and being open to learning has been essential. Lastly, I’ve learned to listen to my intuition. If something doesn’t feel right or isn’t meant for me, that’s okay—one closed door doesn’t mean you’re locked out of the house forever. For anyone starting out, my advice is to stay respectful, stay curious, and trust that the right opportunities will come when the time is right. Also, be respectful and open-minded, but don’t be afraid to “stick to your guns” when necessary and put your foot down—knowing when to stand firm is just as important as being adaptable.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, I’m always open to partnering and collaborating with like-minded individuals who share a passion for creativity and storytelling. Specifically, I’m looking to collaborate with professionals in film, TV, and other creative fields—whether it’s directors, producers, fellow production designers, architects, or artists of all kinds who bring fresh perspectives to the table. I value collaboration with people who are open-minded, detail-oriented, and excited about building something meaningful together. If you’re interested in working together or discussing potential collaborations, feel free to reach out to me through my website at southshorestudios.design or directly via email.
