We recently connected with Chris Sarfin and have shared our conversation below.
Chris, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
I guess growing up, I was taught to try and find the humor in challenging situations. I just remind myself that, at the end of the day, everything is temporary. For me, optimism is also about self-care; taking care of yourself means holding onto a sense of hope. But that doesn’t mean you should neglect reality. Let’s be real — it’s not always easy, but you can try to condition yourself to hold onto that hope.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a filmmaker who directs, writes, and produces. Right now, I’m working on some really exciting projects that are set to release soon. I love telling feel-good, heartwarming stories.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
First, I would say that staying curious and continuously honing new skills can be impactful. There’s always something new to learn and be inspired by, and I think it’s important to maintain that sense of curiosity.
Second, as the saying goes, it’s important to understand the things you can control, the things you can’t, and to develop the wisdom to know the difference. You want to make sure you’re putting your time and energy into things that bring the right energy back to you.
And third, I’d say surround yourself with people you genuinely connect with. Being around people who share similar interests, goals, and values—especially within your chosen field—can help you truly flourish.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
They encouraged my passion for filmmaking from a young age. One of the first toys I remember getting as a kid was a purple toy movie projector. I would draw my own illustrations on the slides, the toy would project them onto the wall, and I’d tell my little stories in sequence. Unfortunately, we don’t know what happened to that projector. Later, as a teenager, they enrolled me in extracurricular art classes to further support my creative interests. They even helped with my early film projects. For example, my dad would slowly drive his Grand Marquis while we rolled down the moonroof, and I’d stick my camera through it to create a DIY tracking shot. Hey, what can I say? We had to be resourceful back then.
