We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Angelo Garrido. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Angelo below.
Angelo, thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?
For us, risk has always felt less like a choice and more like a necessity. Casa AnKan was created with the intention of doing things differently, of creating a space that doesn’t quite fit into traditional definitions of either gallery or showroom. From the beginning, we’ve been drawn to pieces that challenge expectations, designers who are still carving their own path, and stories that aren’t always easy to tell.
Taking risks became part of our practice simply because we couldn’t imagine building something meaningful without pushing outside of the familiar. Each decision, from who we partner with to the works we choose to exhibit, requires a certain amount of trust in our eye and in our audience. And over time, that trust has grown stronger. Risk is still there, but it’s no longer something to fear. It’s part of the creative rhythm.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Casa AnKan is a gallery rooted in the belief that luxury is about intention. We focus on collectible and limited-edition pieces that blur the line between art and design, celebrating craftsmanship, cultural context, and emotional resonance. For us, luxury lives in the details: the hand-finished edge of a mirror, the imperfect texture of raw materials, the way a piece transforms a space simply by being present.
What we do is both curatorial and collaborative. We work closely with emerging and established designers from around the world, presenting their work through exhibitions, pop-ups, and curated installations that invite dialogue and reflection. We’re interested in stories, processes, and the power of design to move people.
Everything we do is about redefining what luxury can be when it’s personal, cultural, and rooted in artistry.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Curiosity with a point of view
Being curious, but with discernment, has shaped everything we do. In the world of art and design, you’re constantly surrounded by visual noise. The ability to explore widely while refining your own eye is essential.
2. Patience, especially with the process
Building something meaningful takes time. Whether it’s nurturing relationships with designers or educating clients about collectible design, the most impactful moments often come slowly. It’s easy to want instant recognition, but the real value is in staying consistent, even when no one is watching.
3. Comfort with uncertainty
Much of our path has involved trusting ideas that didn’t yet have a roadmap. The industry doesn’t always have space carved out for something new, so we’ve had to create it ourselves.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
Our ideal client values meaning over mass. They’re curious, intuitive, and unafraid of pieces that spark conversation or challenge the expected. They see their space as an extension of their identity.
We’re drawn to clients who are interested in the story behind a piece: who made it, how it was crafted, and why it exists in the world. They understand that true luxury lies in connection, in investing in work that carries intention, culture, and soul.
