Meet Jessica Toscano

We were lucky to catch up with Jessica Toscano recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jessica , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

Years of resilience and hard work. You gain confidence and self-esteem the same way you gain knowledge and skillsets: You try something new and persist until you master it. With this comes three very important lessons:

1. You can’t fail unless you try…and if you try, you’re already ahead of the game.

2. Everything becomes a lot less scary once you throw yourself into it…and once you do, you have no reason to turn back, only to refine your strategy.

3. Comparison of other people is a waste of time. The only person you should be comparing yourself to is the version of you you no longer aspire to be.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

IntrigueMag was born to embrace individuality, independence, and the overall desire to Live Better. Feel Better. Be Better. I wanted to create an atmosphere where people could learn more about embracing themselves as their best selves through informative, fun articles on self-care, sex and relationships, health and fitness, and food and beverages.

As the world’s first unisex lifestyle publication, we tackle everything from an inclusive – rather than exclusive – perspective. Our expert-derived skincare tips, sex advice, fitness routines and food recommendations can be applied to anyone regardless of how they identify.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Early on in my journey, I developed a tunnel vision approach: Eye on the goal, ignore the noise. The noise can mean different things to different people. “Noise” could be constant drinking and partying over working towards a vision, but it could also mean canceling out anyone who tells you you’re not good enough, your idea isn’t realistic, or you’ll never succeed. No one knows the future, and no one is capable of creating the future you want for yourself but you.

With this in mind, consistency yields results and focusing most on what you’re passionate about helps you stay consistent.

TL;DR:

1. Eye on the goal, ignore the noise
2. Consistency is key
3. Focus on your passion

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

My parents raised me to think for myself rather than follow a crowd. With this, I learned to listen to my gut, stay curious and draw conclusions on my own. I apply this to everything from purchases to friendships to career decisions.
