Meet Todd Ramsey Moore

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Todd Ramsey Moore a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Todd Ramsey, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

I have always been able to accomplish the most important things by remaining optimistic. Pessimism is something that can extinguish the fire in your spirit. When I was a kid, my mom took me to a class called the Silva Mind Control Method.
One of the basic principals taught in the course was positive reinforcement which was perpetuated in a sort of self hypnosis. I also learned to train my mind to achieve an alpha state which can calm the mind and help with focus. Being able to relax the mind quickly helped be to extinguish any tendency towards runaway negativity.
I did not realize it for many years but my mother, also an artist; suffered from anxiety. Her taking that course and bringing me with her helped her to fight her anxiety and gave me tools with which to battle my own.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Currently, I am most focused on acting. Acting is something that I did casually on and off throughout my life starting as a kid in local commercials, regional theater and a film. I did not have any training, I, to a certain extent, was able to just be real doing whatever was asked of me. When I hit my teens, I became more interested in music and learned to write songs and play lead guitar. This is where I learned about creativity and, because I was always in bands, I learned to work in an ensemble.
In my 30’s, I began to rediscover acting, I was in San Francisco, playing in bands and occasionally, I would be asked to do various small acting things and realized I had ability in acting but no training. I decided to start learning more about the craft of acting and began to take acting classes whenever I could.
Even without training, I found acting to be slightly more profitable than music so I started to lean more towards acting. In Austin, I was asked to star in a short independent film called “The Savage.” I learned quickly that Austin at the time was not a hotbed of film activity. I moved to the LA area and found that even though there were many opportunities, there is a lot more competition..
Fast forward to now, I have put more into my acting than ever before. I have a manager and two agents who believe in me. There is an acting community here where most actors support one another and there are producers, casting directors and agents who actively try to help actors. We are all here scrapping to win in an industry that to some extent is still recovering from COVID.
Right now. I am just trying to be the best actor I can and keep pushing myself to get better. My brand is really more about being my true self. Part of acting asks us to draw upon our experiences and tendencies realized or not and bring them to the surface without pretense. There is no place for being fake.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I think that what people need to do to achieve their greatness is to be truthful to your self and don’t be afraid. I think that for years, I wanted to be an actor but I did not acknowledge this as fact because I was afraid of failure.
Listening to your heart can be a double edged sword. Because your heart doesn’t always follow logic. You have to allow yourself to listen to your heart but also listen to your logical mind. Both are important but they have to be kept in separate jars because they can cancel each other out causing you to be neither logical nor true to your heart.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

In the last 12 months I have doubled down on training and auditioning for a wide variety of roles which have not necessarily been designated as my type. This has allowed me to be more confident in roles that are more of a stretch and also made me more efficient with working on multiple scenes at one time.
