Meet Kinley Clark

We were lucky to catch up with Kinley Clark recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kinley , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

When someone asks me where my resilience comes from, I always point to my mom and dad. My dad grew up in a tough environment where he could have easily gone down the wrong path, but he recognized the need to work hard and turned his life around by joining the military and becoming a Doc on a submarine. Throughout my childhood and even now, I see him putting in so much effort to achieve his goals for him and the family. He taught me that if you want something, you have to go out and get it!

My mom was a stay-at-home mom while my dad was serving in the military. I watched her raise us and run her own business from home. She gave my sister and me everything, and I will always be grateful for that. She juggled a lot; while my dad worked hard for our family, my mom took care of the home and was deeply involved in our school and soccer activities. Even when life threw challenges our way, she kept pushing forward! She instilled in me the belief that anything is possible and that while hardships may come, they can’t stop the Clark family! So, in short, I’d say both my mom and dad play an equal role in my resilience.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Hey! I’m Kinley Clark – a podcaster here in ATX. My podcast is called Lez Be Honest. It’s focused on the queer community, but I love interviewing a diverse range of guests. We dive into all sorts of topics, including sexuality, politics, different lifestyles, controversial issues, sex, and more! I’ve always known I wanted to do something “different” from the typical 9-5 grind, and one day I just decided to go for it. I did my research, got insights from influencer friends, and took the leap. While I’m currently still in a 9-5 job, I’m really hoping to turn my passion into my main source of income! That’s definitely the end goal for me.

What I enjoy most about being a podcaster is the honor of having people feel comfortable enough to be vulnerable and share their stories with me and my listeners. I love learning about people’s lives, and my goal is to create connections and make the LGBTQIA+ community feel safe and heard. As someone who is part of this community, I understand how tough the world can be, and I truly hope this podcast radiates nothing but love and acceptance!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Reflecting on my journey, I’d say the three most impactful qualities or skills have been resilience, thorough research, and dedication. First, resilience is crucial. It’s all about being okay with hearing “no” and being able to pivot when things don’t go your way. If you take every rejection or redirection personally, it can really hold you back from succeeding.

The second skill is doing your research beforehand. Understanding how to create and build a podcast is essential for success. I dedicated time to ensure I was building it exactly how I envisioned, and I still make it a point to keep learning and growing.

Lastly, dedication is key. I won’t lie; there are days when I feel so overwhelmed that I consider skipping a week of episodes. But then I remind myself that if I want this to be successful, consistency is vital. Even when you feel overwhelmed, that dedication will push you to keep going. To improve in these areas, my best advice is to just dive in and stay committed. Humans thrive on routine, so if you keep reinforcing your goals, your mind and body will start to embrace them!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

My podcast is interview-based, and I’m always on the lookout for new guests! I’ve had the privilege of featuring some incredible queer influencers. While my podcast primarily focuses on queer themes, I also enjoy having guests from various backgrounds, including food influencers, deconstructing Christians, previous cult members and more. The only requirement is that my guests should at least be allies in the community. If you have an interesting story to share, are part of the community, or are a supportive ally, I’d love to have you on! I’m always open to connecting with more amazing people. Definitely check out my podcast if you have good taste in podcasts 😉 You can find it on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube – Just search Lez Be Honest Podcast. My DM’s are always open as well or if you are more of an email person, you can find me at lezbehonesttpodcast@gmail.com.
