We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Maria Capone. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Maria below.
Hi Maria, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
Self-care, for me, is a non-negotiable foundation for everything I do—personally and professionally. My approach is holistic and intentional, rooted in the belief that a healthy body creates the conditions for a healthy mind, which allows me to show up as my most authentic, grounded, and effective self.
My nutrition is highly disciplined. I follow a high-protein, no-sugar, low-carb diet that stabilizes my energy, sharpens my focus, and supports metabolic health. By eliminating inflammatory foods and fueling myself with purpose, I’ve seen a dramatic improvement in mental clarity, emotional resilience, and physical vitality.
Movement is also a cornerstone of my self-care. I have a diverse and joyful exercise regimen that includes weight lifting, running, yoga, hiking, and even rock climbing. These practices not only keep my body strong and agile, but they also serve as emotional outlets and moments of self-connection. I often find that physical activity unlocks creativity and deepens my capacity to lead, love, and serve.
Beyond the physical, my inner work has been just as transformational. I maintain a regular meditation practice that allows me to slow down, observe, and reset. I also engage in shadow work—consciously exploring the parts of myself that are uncomfortable or hidden, in order to live and lead from a more integrated place. This internal excavation gives me the emotional intelligence and self-awareness necessary to navigate challenges with grace and to connect with others more deeply and authentically.
Ultimately, my philosophy is simple: when we take care of the vessel—body, mind, and spirit—we open up space to live in alignment with our purpose. I’ve found that by prioritizing my health, I respond rather than react, I lead with clarity, and I hold space for others with a depth that comes from truly knowing and caring for myself first. That’s the real power of self-care—it’s not indulgence, it’s preparation for impact.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My journey into health and wellness began long before I ever held a professional title. It was born from a personal desire to heal, to grow, and to help others do the same. After years of working in medical weight loss and guiding patients through transformative lifestyle changes, I came to understand that true health isn’t just about the body—it’s about mind, spirit, and purpose. That belief has shaped everything I do.
Professionally, I’ve had the honor of serving as Clinic Manager at one of the top-performing medical weight loss clinics in Arizona. In that role, I led a team through incredible growth, not just financially but in terms of patient impact and community reach. Helping people take control of their health and watching them step into a new version of themselves has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my life.
Now, I’m stepping into an exciting new chapter as Clinic Manager at Plush Laser in Scottsdale—a premier destination for advanced aesthetics and wellness. This transition from the weight loss industry into aesthetic medicine reflects the evolution of my passion: helping people look and feel their best from the inside out. What excites me most about this new role is the opportunity to continue supporting clients in their self-care journeys, now through a more expansive lens that includes beauty, skin health, and inner radiance.
At the same time, I’m launching a side business as an integrative health coach, offering one-on-one coaching for individuals who are ready to transform their lives at the root level. My coaching work blends science-based nutrition with mindset, metabolic health, and somatic tools like breathwork, yoga and shadow work. I deeply believe that when we nourish the body and integrate the emotional layers underneath our habits, we unlock a new level of power, vitality, and authenticity. This offering is a culmination of my personal healing journey and my professional expertise—and I’m beyond excited to share it.
My brand is built on truth, depth, and transformation. Whether I’m leading a clinic or working privately with clients, my mission is the same: to help people reconnect with themselves, restore their health, and rise fully into the life they’re meant to live.
My coaching practice officially launches this fall, and I can’t wait to begin working with individuals who are ready to step into their next chapter.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three core qualities have shaped my journey more than anything else: resilience, emotional intelligence, and the commitment to lifelong learning.
1. Resilience
Life has tested me in ways I never imagined—personally and professionally. Losing my son, navigating career pivots, and rebuilding after loss taught me that resilience isn’t just about bouncing back, it’s about rising with more depth and clarity than before. For anyone early in their journey: trust that the challenges will refine you. Lean into discomfort, and let it mold you into someone stronger, wiser, and more purposeful. You don’t have to do it perfectly—just keep showing up.
2. Emotional Intelligence
Whether you’re leading a team or coaching a client, your ability to connect, listen, and regulate your own emotions is everything. Developing emotional intelligence has helped me build trust, resolve conflict, and lead with compassion. If you want to grow this skill, start with self-awareness: journal, meditate, or get curious about your emotional triggers. The more you understand yourself, the more you can hold space for others.
3. Lifelong Learning
My journey has evolved through many different chapters—entrepreneurship, weight loss, spiritual growth, leadership in clinical settings—and I’ve never stopped learning. I read voraciously, study psychology and metabolic health, and integrate practices like shadow work into both my life and my work. For anyone starting out: stay curious. Stay open. Don’t be afraid to evolve. What you know today will get you started—but who you become through continued learning will keep you growing.
Most importantly, remember that your journey is yours. The sooner you stop comparing and start connecting with your authentic path, the faster you’ll find your rhythm—and the impact you’re meant to make.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Two books that have deeply impacted my life and shaped the way I show up—both in my own healing and in my work with others—are Becoming Supernatural by Dr. Joe Dispenza and Broken Open by Elizabeth Lesser.
Dr. Joe Dispenza’s Becoming Supernatural taught me that we are not bound by our past or our current circumstances. Through meditation, breathwork, and shifting our internal state, we can literally rewire our biology and step into a new version of ourselves. That book gave me the tools to move from survival into creation. One of the most impactful lessons was this: “Your personality creates your personal reality.” When I started to shift my thoughts, emotions, and energy on a daily basis, everything around me began to transform. I no longer felt stuck in old patterns—I felt empowered to create my future.
On the other hand, Broken Open by Elizabeth Lesser gave me permission to soften into the pain of life rather than resist it. After experiencing profound personal loss, this book reminded me that our greatest breakdowns can become our greatest breakthroughs—but only if we allow ourselves to feel, grieve, and grow through them. Lesser’s writing taught me that there is immense strength in vulnerability, and that healing doesn’t mean returning to who you were—it means becoming someone new, someone deeper.
Together, these books mirrored two essential truths: we are powerful creators of our lives, and we are also beautifully human in our suffering. That balance—between transformation and tenderness—is something I carry into every coaching session, leadership moment, and personal ritual.
