Meet Odalys

We recently connected with Odalys and have shared our conversation below.

Odalys, we are so appreciative of you taking the time to open up about the extremely important, albeit personal, topic of mental health. Can you talk to us about your journey and how you were able to overcome the challenges related to mental issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.

Honestly, my relationship with God is what has helped me through my mental health issues. Thats not to say im “cured” I just know to look outside myself now and turn to God for His strength rather than my own. Thats not to say im perfect at it because I definitely am not but I have come to learn that I dont have to be perfect. God will meet me exactly where I am and this gives me hope.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Im Odie, im a 32 year old nail technician/ mom of 2. Im based out of Miami Florida and I’ve been doing nails since 2019. I specialize in structure gel, hard gel, gelx and nail art. Im huge into natural nail health and I also make my own cuticle oils. I got into doing nails because I had a horrible experience at a nail salon where I ended up getting a terrible infection from unsafe nail practices and I developed an allergy to gels. This incident pushed me to finally enroll in nail school and learn how to do them myself. I love nails and making women feel confident while emphasising on nail health and sanitation. My clients mean the world to me because without them I wouldn’t be where I am now. I love that I can build relationships and trust with amazing women who feel safe to share their wins and their losses with me. I am also grateful that I have the ability to be a private nail tech and make my own schedule which allows me to be with my kids while also managing my business. It has given me a freedom I never experienced working in the corporate world.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I believe the most important areas of knowledge for my line of business are:

-Safe nail prep
-How to manage finances
-Maeketing

The advice I would give is first and foremost not to give up. Take things one step at a time. Don’t get caught up in the “trends” or what how far anyone else has come. Run YOUR race. Learn as much as you can and put together a plan of action. Look within yourself and really ask yourself the hard questions. Why do I want this? What do I want my business to look like? What do I need to have the life I want? Write things down and be organized. Set goals and check in with yourself often. You are capable of more then you give yourself credit for!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I would love to work with brands in the nail industry because it allows me to combine my passion for art and creativity with my desire to uplift others in this field. Nails are more than just a service to me—they’re a form of self-expression and storytelling, and I love being able to bring that vision to life for clients. Over the years, I’ve made my share of mistakes and learned so much through experience, and I genuinely want to help other nail artists grow by sharing those lessons. Collaborating with brands would give me the opportunity to showcase products I truly believe in, while also creating content that inspires, educates, and supports fellow artists on their journey.
