We recently connected with Julia D’Amelio and have shared our conversation below.
Julia, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
My confidence and self-esteem were not something I was born with—they were built over time, often through life experiences that first tore me down. It was in those moments of hardship that I learned how to heal, rebuild, and rise stronger than before. I made a conscious decision to focus on my purpose rather than my reputation, tuning out the noise and anchoring myself in the deeper “why” behind what I do. A huge part of my growth came from recognizing the healing I offer to my clients and truly celebrating every win—no matter how big or small. Experience has been my greatest teacher; the more I showed up and witnessed my clients thrive, the more confident I became in my ability to lead and support. And perhaps most importantly, I learned that in order to give fully and serve from a place of authenticity and strength, I have to make sure my own cup is full first.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a board-certified Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) and Doctor of Clinical Nutrition (DCN). I own and operate a private practice where I work one-on-one with clients to provide personalized nutrition counseling. While I specialize in weight loss and gut health, I support clients across a wide range of health concerns. What excites me most about my work is the ability to connect deeply with each client in a safe, judgment-free space where we can explore the root causes of their challenges. Every day, I wake up genuinely grateful to do what I love—running the very business I once dreamed of and manifested into existence. What sets my work apart is the holistic, whole-body approach I take. I don’t just focus on food—I align the mind, body, and soul, which often leads my clients to outcomes that go far beyond their original goals. My brand is authentic, relatable, and realistic, and I believe that’s exactly why it resonates and thrives. While I currently offer nutrition counseling and custom meal plans, I’m excited to eventually expand into an in-person space that integrates additional offerings like reiki, astrological chart readings, and even a grab-n-go style health cafe. There’s so much more to come!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three most impactful qualities that shaped my journey have been determination, a deep dedication to learning, and above all else, empathy. My determination truly took root when I began working from a place of purpose and soul fulfillment rather than chasing solely financial success. I learned how to overcome setbacks and past failures, using them as fuel to keep moving forward toward the vision I believed in. My dedication to learning has been equally vital—earning a bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degree, completing over 1,200 hours of residency training, and continuing to grow through continued education and self-improvement. I never see myself as “done” because there is always more to learn and evolve. But what has made the greatest difference is empathy. My initial interest in weight loss came from my own personal struggles with body image, which lasted well into my mid-twenties. Through studying nutrition and later aligning my mind, body, and purpose, I transformed my own life—and now bring that lived experience into every client session. It allows me to connect and support my clients on a level that’s deeply personal and real. My best advice to anyone starting out is to explore different passions until you uncover the one that speaks to your soul. Once you find it, root yourself in it so deeply that everything else naturally begins to unfold. Be authentic. Only pursue what feels right. And most importantly, express gratitude every day—the more you do, the more aligned opportunities you’ll attract.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Scientifically, “Fiber Fueled” By Dr. Will Bulsiewicz helped me uncover the key to gut health, which would later serve as the backbone of my practice’s ideology. Spiritually, “Many Lives, Many Masters” by Dr. Brian Weiss opened my mind to an entire new realm of purpose and possibilities.
