We were lucky to catch up with Rochelle Knight recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rochelle, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
For self care, I enjoy spending time in nature so I can unplug and reset. My favourite places to visit include Jamaica’s rivers and mountains where I can enjoy a cool refreshing dip and hike. Hiking is my favourite form of exercise because it doesn’t even feel like exercise! Also, when I’m out in nature, suddenly my burdens no longer feel as heavy. After a day well-spent in the outdoors, I get clarity and renewed focus which helps my creativity and career to flourish.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a third year internal medicine resident in Jamaica, but spend my free time writing, traveling and making content to inspire others to get up and see the world. I have an insatiable case of wanderlust, but decided to start exploring closer to home first because there is no point in living where people vacation and not making use of it. This inspired me to start my blog, Adventures from Elle, in 2016 to document those travels and inspire both locals and tourists to explore Jamaica’s hidden gems. A few years later, my audience exploded and the rest is history.
I take pride in showcasing the best of Jamaica, as I’m very proud of my island and its beauty. What makes Adventures from Elle unique is that I share all the useful details many travel blogs will shy away from such as prices, best times to visit and genuine opinions. I get excited when people stop me in the streets, or send me emails and DMs like: “Hey! I read your blog and it led me to this place.”
Despite the demands of postgraduate training, I still make time to write so you can check out my website for new posts every Friday morning. Also, I published my first book Sightsee Jamaica in 2021 which outlines everything there is to do and see on the island in a handy checklist format. Purchase it on Amazon if you reside in Jamaica or plan to spend a prolonged vacation on the island.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I’d say good time management, discipline and self motivation have been assets in my blogging and content creation journey. To anyone who is thinking of starting or is still early in their blogging and content creation journey, I’d say to have patience and keep putting in the work. Consistency is key, and most successful bloggers today did not get there overnight. Dedicate your weekends, evenings and paid time off to honing your skills and eliminate “time zappers” from your day such as mindlessly scrolling social media. Also, never forget to have fun! That’s rule number one. If it feels like fun, you’re more likely to stick it through. Don’t be afraid to pivot and reinvent yourself over time.

I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with several brands over the years, and I’m always on the look out for more mutually beneficial partnerships. I enjoy working with sustainable hotels, villas, restaurants and beauty brands because the environment means a lot to me.
