We recently connected with Patrice Hudson and have shared our conversation below.
Patrice, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Patrice’s resilience isn’t something that just appeared one day. It was forged in silence, in storms, in seasons where no one saw the battles she fought. It was built piece by piece through experiences that could have shattered her, but instead shaped her. She is not made of fragility she’s made of fire and grace. She gets her resilience from growing through pain without losing her softness. From waking up after sleepless nights with swollen eyes but still choosing to smile. From learning how to hold herself together when everything around her was falling apart. Resilience didn’t knock at her door it was demanded of her. And Patrice answered that demand with courage. She gets her strength from God first. There were moments when she didn’t know how she would make it, when prayers were whispered through tears, when she had no words only faith. That divine connection is her anchor. It’s what steadies her when the winds of life threaten to sweep her away. She knows her life has purpose, and that keeps her grounded even when the ground feels like it’s shaking. Patrice gets her resilience from her past. From the struggles she’s overcome the heartbreaks, the losses, the disappointments. Each scar tells a story, and instead of hiding them, she wears them with pride. They remind her of what she’s survived. They are not signs of weakness, but proof of strength.
She gets it from the people who believed in her, and even more from those who didn’t. From the ones who doubted her, underestimated her, or tried to dim her light because she learned how to shine anyway. She doesn’t rely on outside validation to know her worth. She walks with confidence because she knows who she is and what she brings to the table. Patrice gets her resilience from love. The kind of love that runs deep for her family, for her future, and for the woman she’s becoming. She loves herself fiercely, especially the parts that once felt broken. She nurtures her inner child and honors the journey of the woman she’s grown into. She keeps going not just for herself, but for those who are watching her those who are learning how to rise because she shows them it’s possible.
And let’s be clear resilience doesn’t mean life doesn’t hurt her. It doesn’t mean she never falls apart. It means she knows how to get back up. It means she’s found beauty in the rebuild. It means she’s chosen to stand tall, even when her knees are shaking. It means she’s chosen healing over bitterness, growth over comfort, and purpose over pain. That’s where Patrice gets her resilience from.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My journey is rooted in resilience, purpose, and love. I’m an Author , a Photographer, and a woman who has turned pain into purpose and I carry every chapter of my story with pride. I was in foster care at a young age, and although it was a difficult season, it became the foundation of who I am. Eventually, my brother and I were adopted, and that transition was a turning point in my life. We weren’t just given a home we were given stability, love, and a second chance at life. My brother and I were extremely close. We leaned on each other through every challenge and celebrated every small victory. He was my anchor, my protector, my best friend. After losing him, a piece of me shifted forever. But even in my grief, I knew I had to carry his memory forward in a way that honored who he was and what he meant to me. That’s what led me to start my photography business: Sidney Vision Photography named after my late brother, Sidney. He always believed in me, saw greatness in me even when I couldn’t see it in myself, and supported my creative spirit. Through Sidney Vision Photography, I strive to capture not just images, but stories, emotions, and authentic moments. My work reflects life’s raw beauty the smiles, the stillness, the laughter, the love. Whether it’s graduation photos, maternity shoots, or family portraits, I aim to give people more than pictures. I give them memories they can hold onto forever.
I’m also incredibly proud to share my book, “A Journey of Resilience,” which is available now on Amazon. This book is my heart on paper a powerful look into my life’s journey, from being in foster care, to healing through loss, to finding strength in the most unexpected places. It’s a story of survival, sisterhood, self-discovery, and faith. I wrote it not just to tell my truth, but to inspire others who might be going through something similar. If you’ve ever felt lost, broken, or unseen this book is for you.
Right now, I’m focused on growing both my photography brand and my platform as an author. I want people to see that your beginnings don’t define your endings your resilience does. I want to connect with people who are ready to embrace their truth, capture their beauty, and celebrate their own journeys. Whether through the lens of my camera or the pages of my book, I’m here to remind people: you are not your past, you are your power.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Resilience: Growing up in foster care and experiencing the heartbreak of losing my brother tested my strength in ways I never imagined. But resilience taught me how to bend without breaking. It’s what kept me moving forward when I wanted to give up. For anyone just starting their journey, understand that resilience is built through the hard moments the times you fall, fail, or feel forgotten. Don’t avoid those seasons. Learn from them. Let them mold you. Keep showing up for yourself, even on the hard days.
Faith:
My faith has carried me through everything. Even when I didn’t have the answers, I had prayer. Even when I felt alone, I knew I was covered. Faith gave me vision not just to see where I was, but to believe in where I was going. If you’re just beginning, I encourage you to find something to believe in that’s bigger than your circumstances. Whether it’s God, a calling, or simply your future self hold on to that. Let it guide you when the path isn’t clear.
Creative Expression:
Writing my book “A Journey of Resilience” and launching Sidney Vision Photography were more than career moves they were healing outlets. Telling my story and capturing others’ stories through a camera lens reminded me that creativity is not just art it’s therapy, communication, and legacy. My advice? Don’t be afraid to explore your voice, your vision, or your craft. Whether it’s journaling, painting, designing, or photographing express yourself. The world needs your unique light.
To those early in their journey: take your time. Don’t rush your growth. Learn from your pain, lean into your passion, and always choose purpose over perfection. You have something special inside you something worth sharing. Keep going. Keep creating. And never forget that your story matters.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, I’m absolutely open to partnering and collaborating with others who are aligned with purpose, passion, and authenticity. Whether you’re an artist, creative, business owner, storyteller, or someone working to uplift your community I’m always excited to connect with people who are driven by meaning and impact. I believe that collaboration is one of the most powerful tools we have to inspire change, build legacy, and reach more hearts. I’m especially interested in working with:
Fellow authors who are sharing their stories of resilience, faith, or personal growth.
Photographers and visual artists who want to collaborate on creative projects or community-based art initiatives.
Nonprofits or organizations focused on foster care advocacy, grief support, or youth empowerment.
Lifestyle brands looking to partner with a photographer for storytelling-driven content and visuals.
Podcast hosts, bloggers, or media outlets who want to feature authentic conversations around healing, entrepreneurship, or creative journeys.
If you’re someone who values heart-led work, understands the power of storytelling, or wants to create something beautiful and meaningful together I’d love to hear from you.
