Meet Morgan Akeé

We recently connected with Morgan Akeé and have shared our conversation below.

Morgan, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

Since the beginning of my career, my core values: integrity, professionalism, dedication, and creativity have driven all of my actions and decisions when building my work ethic. My many experiences in the beauty industry such as being lead MUA for the ever so talented Creative director and photographer Blake Martin out of Chicago, being lead MUA for Josh Johnson, the comedian for his stand up comedy show, all the way down to body sculpting with the infamous Courtney Lockridge of Shaped Secretz in Downtown Los Angeles have helped to shape how I work independently and with others. Working with all of these talented creatives has helped me to learn the ability to adapt to the many changes in challenges in the beauty industry. Being able to stay positive and commit to a lifetime of learning helps as well! My only hope is that it can influence my colleagues, clients, and students to do the same in all of their endeavors.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I specialize in lash extensions, skincare, and body sculpting aimed at individuals that are into caring for their bodies from the inside out! What excites me the most about my work are the transformations I am able to give, as each creation allows me to express my passion for all things beauty!

I believe in creativity, professionalism, dedication, and integrity which guide me in providing exceptional service and quality. I’m thrilled to share that I will be launching Farrio Skin and Sculpt! It’s mobile esthetic services right to your front door! I believe it will be a great addition to the South Bay and surrounding areas!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Reflecting on my journey in the beauty industry, I believe three key qualities have been most impactful: creativity, resilience, and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Creativity: This quality has allowed me to innovate and express my unique vision. In my early career, I often experimented with different techniques, which helped me develop a distinctive style that resonates with my clients. Advice: Embrace your creativity by trying new things, attending workshops, or collaborating with others. Push your boundaries regularly to find your unique aesthetic.

Resilience: The beauty industry can be unpredictable, and I’ve faced numerous challenges, from client feedback to industry shifts. Resilience has helped me bounce back stronger. Advice: Cultivate resilience by viewing setbacks as learning opportunities. Surround yourself with supportive mentors and peers who can provide encouragement during tough times.

Commitment to Lifelong Learning: The beauty industry is constantly evolving. Staying updated with trends and techniques is essential. I’ve always sought out new knowledge, whether through courses or industry events. Advice: Make a habit of reading industry publications, joining online forums, or enrolling in relevant classes to keep your skills sharp and current.

To anyone just starting their journey, remember that growth takes time. Keep an open mind, be willing to learn, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes—each step shapes your path to success.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

In reflecting on my journey, I recognize that having the right support has been crucial to overcoming challenges and developing essential skills.

One of the most impactful figures has been my mentor, Courtney Lockridge, who has been instrumental in guiding me through the complexities of the beauty industry here in Los Angeles. Her expertise and constructive feedback helped me refine my skills, especially in body sculpting. I remember how challenging it was to pivot to another path where I faced creative blocks, and Courtney encouraged me to explore new techniques, ultimately leading to a breakthrough.

Another significant influence has been my colleagues and staff at New Age Spa Institute in Des Plaines, IL. Collaborating, learning from, and with such talented individuals taught me the importance of teamwork and diverse perspectives. They gave me everything I needed to feel comfortable tackling anything in the beauty world!

Lastly, my family has always been my backbone. Their unwavering support during difficult times has motivated me to keep pushing forward, reminding me that resilience is key to success.

I am incredibly grateful for the guidance and encouragement I’ve received. To those early in their journeys, I encourage you to seek out mentors, build relationships, and learn from those around you. The insights and support from others can be invaluable as you carve your path.
