We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kim Ann. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kim below.
Kim, so great to have you sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our readers and so let’s jump right into one of our favorite topics – empathy. We think a lack of empathy is at the heart of so many issues the world is struggling with and so our hope is to contribute to an environment that fosters the development of empathy. Along those lines, we’d love to hear your thoughts around where your empathy comes from?
Discovering strength and empathy in the most difficult moments of my life has transformed me. As a mother to a premature baby born at 25 weeks, I entered a world where every breath my son took felt like a victory. Through 143 days in the neonatal intensive care unit, multiple surgeries, and countless medical procedures, his sheer determination to survive amazed me. This journey, though filled with heartbreak and fear, also brought me a profound realization. It allowed me to truly understand the struggles, pain, and resilience of others. I now hold a deep empathy, shaped by my own experiences, that connects me with those facing their own challenges.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am thrilled to be a best-selling and award-winning author of 26 children’s and affirmation books. My passion lies in creating stories that inspire, engage, and motivate young minds. Each tale is a whimsical adventure that encourages children to fall in love with reading. The best part of it all is seeing the joy on a child’s face as they dive into one of my stories and let their imagination soar.
I’m excited to announce the upcoming launch of my latest book, “Ten Little Starfish,” a delightful counting rhyming book. This book is a true reflection of my dedication to crafting memorable and enriching experiences for young readers plus showing my appreciation of marine life.
As I continue to write and create, my goal is to ignite curiosity, compassion, and confidence in every child who opens one of my books.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back on my journey, there are three qualities that have made the biggest impact: a love for writing, an eye for creativity, and a desire to connect with young readers. Writing and storytelling have been my driving force, and writing narratives that capture the imaginations of children has been my focus. If you’re a new author starting out, I encourage you to consider the qualities you possess. Let your passion fuel your motivation, let your creativity flow freely, and always keep your young audience in mind. And I can’t stress enough the importance of hiring a professional editor for your children’s books. They can offer invaluable insights and help you polish your work, making sure that your story is truly the best it can be.
