We recently connected with Ashley Falzone and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I have had my salon for just under five years now, and I had impostors syndrome up until a year ago. I have been ridiculously busy with every aspect of running a salon that it took many small moments that reminded me-I actually do run a hair salon, and yes-it’s successful. Since opening the salon there has been an immense amount of commitment to building an online presence, ensuring all my staff are busy and content, and that clients love their experience. All of these components to the salon are a must in order to keep everything functioning like a well oiled machine. My staff is amazing and talented so they make my management role easy!
The biggest help to overcoming my impostors syndrome was having clients in my chair that I’ve had for years recognizing I wasn’t just a one man show anymore. I started having clients say, “Ashley you’ve made it-your hard work has paid off”. It took people literally telling me point blank that they are proud of me, and they see how hard I’ve worked.
I regularly work with mentors and other business professionals to keep on top of my game and bring in new ideas. Another thing that showed me I’m doing better than I think is the quality of relationships and people around me have improved and become more genuine. Being able to meet others with the same drive and ambitions as you is a game changer!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As much as I’d like to say A|F SALON is about doing hair, that wouldn’t be on point. At A|F SALON we are about making clients feel like their best selves inside and out. We genuinely care about how our clients feel on a deeper level than just beauty. We really like to know our clients and help with their confidence.
Our main focus at our salon is Hair Extensions, Hair Color, Curly Hair, Wedding Services, and Special Event Makeup although we do a bit of everything.
We are excited to announce we are currently looking for a Booth Renter to fill our Chair we recently added! We are looking to expand our team with more Stylists that share our laid back vibe in the Crossroads KC.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe resilience is the number one key to success. I could of given up at any point but I’m way to stubborn for that! Being stubborn with what you believe in allows others to see how important it is and how much your’e willing to do to reach your goals. The only difference between a successful person and a non successful person is that one of them never gave up.
I do believe a college education has been helpful to my hair salon journey. Hair is my true passion but I’ve slowly worked my way through my Bachelors Degree in order to learn more about business, marketing, and Psychology. I feel all those aspects are important to running my hair salon.
The final thing that I find imperative is knowing when to ask for help and delegate tasks to other professionals. It’s not normal to do everything on your own!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m always looking to collaborate with local businesses to boost and build our brand power within the Crossroads! There are so many photographers/film people in the area that I would love to find a way to connect with.
