We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennifer Cleaver a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Overcoming imposter syndrome has been more about learning to coexist with it than making it just disappear completely. Early on in my business, I often questioned whether my work was ‘good enough’ or if I truly deserved the recognition I received. But I realized that those doubts came from caring deeply about what I create—and that’s not a weakness, it’s a strength.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I create handmade and personalized keepsakes that celebrate meaningful moments, honor loved ones, and add a touch of joy to everyday life. From engraved jewelry featuring handwriting and paw prints to pet memorial ornaments, baby signs and earrings. I also run a wholesale business for homecoming mum acrylics.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I’ve realized that three things truly shaped my journey – emotional connection, adaptability, and storytelling. When I started creating the keepsakes and pet memorials, I didn’t expect how deeply personal each piece would become—not just for my customers, but for me. Connecting through shared memories taught me that the most powerful creations come from the heart.
Adapting to trends, experimenting with new techniques, and embracing the flops helped me stay flexible and pushed me to keep going and work harder.
For anyone just starting out, trust your instincts, stay open to growth, and don’t wait to feel “ready.” You’re already building something meaningful, one small step at a time.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
There have been so many people who’ve played a role in helping me navigate challenges—but if I had to choose, the most helpful has been the community I’ve built through my business. From supportive customers who share heartfelt stories, to fellow creatives who remind me that I’m not alone, their encouragement has been a constant source of strength. Whether I was experimenting with a new product or tackling a tough decision, their feedback, kindness, and trust pushed me forward.
