We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sherina Mikasa. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sherina below.
Sherina , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from watching my mother strive for a better life since I was a little girl. Watching her I saw someone who had big dreams and aspirations to be great but also struggled with tons of obstacles and challenges to achieve them. I made it my life goal to support her and show her a better way but along the way of course I’ve faced my own many obstacles which challenges me to keep going because I believe that at some point I will get there. So I learn my lessons and do my best to find a way to make things easier; since, I have had many successes and know that I’m on the right path, my resilience shows me what I am truly capable of.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a storyteller at best which embodies my profession as an actor, filmmaker and motivational speaker. I have been a professional actor for over 15 years now but for the last 10+ years I’ve had to put my career aside to focus on helping my mother who was suffering severely with her mental health. It is a big part of my story but it is also why I became an actor/filmmaker and now motivational speaker so that I can share my story of how I found my purpose, healed from life long trauma, while helping others heal too; especially my mother who is now in a much better place. My story is filled with miracles and overcoming really hard stuff. I am currently in a major transition so that I can finally manifest all of my dreams. I am in post production for my short film that I created based on an experience I had with my mother. Its an original unique and complexed dramedy that I’ve had so much fun with. During the pandemic I became certified as a life coach and meditation instructor and on the journey of building my business I discovered I am best suited as a motivational speaker. I have now given motivational speeches at businesses and corporations, and plan to have my own speaking event later this summer. There are many things happening in the world and with my spiritual gifts I feel its time to speak to even more audiences. As far as acting goes I decided to get back in by doing standup comedy because I’m a funny girl and I love to make people laugh. I have an upcoming show at Flapper’s in Burbank on August 9th and you can stay updated with me on instagram @sherinamikasa. To keep up with the progress of my short film please follow @atheentertainer and for my speaking engagements and podcast updates please follow me @miraculoushealer. That’s right I also have a podcast called Miraculous Healing with Sherina Mikasa that plays on all major podcast platforms so please check that out as well. I am currently discussing Chakras as I work on balancing my own chakras; which has been a fun journey to discuss. You can also find it on my website along with more of who I am as a spiritual healer www.miraculoushealer.com.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
One day I was having a deep conversation with Eddie Murphy and I asked him some advice on what it takes to make it and he told me you have to have “tenacity, persistence and resilience.” I’ve kept that with me over the years. When it came to fighting to keep my mother alive I realized I had to be tenacious to get things done and so I went all in on my own healing because I began to see the only way I could help her is to help my self first. Being tenacious with my healing taught me to be persistent on finding the answers I was seeking which revealed my resilience; which is now my middle name. Learning that I am a tenacious, persistent and resilient leader I now know how to be that in every area of my life. I say, decide what you want and go for it!!
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The book “A Course in Miracles” has truly helped me change my life. There are several others that I repeat as well but I study the course daily as it has helped me become a better communicator, solve problems and accept my true self as a miracle worker. I am currently overcoming several obstacles. I am at a major turning point in my life, its that spot where extremely successful people hit rock bottom and then discover how to overcome and finally breakthrough, well “A Course in Miracles” is helping me get through it. It teaches me how to choose love over fear, to function at my highest self and create miracles.
