We recently connected with Izzi Morningstar and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Izzi, really appreciate your meeting with us today to talk about some particularly personal topics. It means a lot because so many in the community are going through circumstances where your insights and experience and lessons might help, so thank you so much in advance for sharing. The first question we have is about divorce and how you overcame divorce and didn’t allow the trauma of divorce to derail your vision for your life and career.
I had an early midlife crisis at 23. Divorce papers in one hand, new job offer in the other, and a one-way ticket to a state where I knew absolutely no one. No family. No friends. Just me, my broken heart, and a suitcase full of what-the-hell-now.
I remember standing on a quiet street around midnight, looking my then-husband in the eye and saying, “It’s either that, or me. Your choice.”
“That” was him wanting to sleep around with whomever he pleased—while I stayed loyal.
He said I was being unfair.
I said I was done playing fair in a game that was rigged against me.
That was the moment I woke up.
Because the real betrayal wasn’t just him cheating—it was me betraying myself, every time I stayed.
This man, who oozed charm to strangers like it was cologne, was ice-cold behind closed doors. And I, like many women raised on fairy tales and emotional labor, confused love with drama, loyalty with suffering, passion with volatility.
Choosing myself didn’t come naturally back then. I outsourced my power to people older, louder, more “experienced.” I let others define what a “good” wife looked like, what a “strong” woman tolerated, and what “real love” should feel like. Spoiler: they were all wrong.
Divorce at 23 wasn’t cute or empowering at first. It was lonely, messy, and raw. But it cracked me open. And through that crack, my real life walked in.
When I started choosing me, I attracted someone who chose me, too, not for who he wanted me to be, but for who I already was.
Now, five years in, every day with him feels like a sacred celebration.
But love alone doesn’t pay the bills—or the $2,000-a-night overwater bungalow.
In the beginning of our marriage, we were careful. Strategic. We delayed our honeymoon. We focused on building, saving, doing all the “right” things.
But somewhere along the way, we realized: The 9-5, the business, the grind? It’s not the goal. When you have a partnership that lights up even the deepest darkest atom of your soul, you cherish it. You invest in it. You don’t neglect it over other “priorities” and responsibilities.
That’s when we decided to travel the world, and we found a way to pay for the whole darn thing with credit card points.
And even better, we are just an average American couple, without spending any more than mortgage, groceries, gas, and occasional entertainment, we managed to score a two week Europe vacation every single year, completely paid for. Heck, we even flew first class on points. And that felt right, because our love is first class worthy.
That’s why we started Izzi Takes Flight, to help couples finally take that trip that they’ve always dreamed up, and eliminate money as the obstacle.
You don’t need more savings. You need a different way of abundance. And points are the new travel currency.
Izzi Takes Flight is here to celebrate your love and commitment, because we know how rare true partnership is.
You’ve got a good thing going. Let us help you amplify your love, easy, joy, and connection through going on that bucket list trip that you’ve been secretly eyeing for years, but never made it happen (yet).

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
