Meet Cory Dickson

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cory Dickson . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cory below.

Hi Cory , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My strong work ethic stems from a long line of inspiring women who have shaped my life. From my grandmother’s entrepreneurial spirit as she ran a successful grainary business to my mother’s dedication as a teacher, principal, and continuous learner, I have been surrounded by incredible role models. Their unwavering commitment to their goals instilled in me the values of perseverance, determination, and the importance of balancing responsibilities. Additionally, the guidance and mentorship of my coaches, teachers, and first boss have further reinforced these principles, guiding me through various challenges and accomplishments. I am grateful for the wisdom I’ve gained from these hardworking individuals, and I am dedicated to carrying on their legacy by applying their teachings in all aspects of my life.”

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
The AB Project, launched by my business partner and me, is a visionary initiative aimed at addressing the pressing issue of single-use plastic bottle waste in our communities. Our primary objective is to reduce plastic waste and its harmful impact on the environment.

To achieve this, we have introduced the innovative concept of providing refill stations at local events, which encourages people to use reusable bottles instead of disposable ones. By making it convenient and accessible for event attendees to refill their bottles, we aim to significantly cut back on plastic waste and litter that often ends up polluting our waters, mountains, and oceans. Through this simple yet effective approach, we hope to leave a positive legacy for our children, creating a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations. We believe that even a small difference can make a significant impact when it comes to preserving our planet and promoting sustainability.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My journey through life has been a tapestry of experiences that have significantly impacted my career, family life, and entrepreneurial ventures. One of the most crucial lessons I’ve learned is the power of building meaningful relationships and surrounding myself with supportive individuals who believe in my aspirations. Their encouragement and guidance have been pivotal in shaping my career path and entrepreneurial endeavors. Embracing change and fearlessly taking calculated risks have been defining traits that have driven me to explore new opportunities and pursue ambitious ventures. You must always remember the importance of being kind and helpful to others, as these acts of compassion have not only enriched my personal life but also opened doors for collaboration and growth in my professional pursuits. Moreover, a strong foundation of faith has been a constant source of strength, guiding me through challenges and providing the resilience needed to overcome obstacles. My journey through life has shaped my outlook, instilled determination, and fueled my commitment to creating a positive impact on the world through my career, family, and entrepreneurial endeavors.”

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
During my freshman year at college, my parents did something incredibly impactful for me. Coming from a very small town, the transition to a new environment with unfamiliar faces and surroundings was a major challenge. I struggled to find my place, faced disappointment when I didn’t get into a sorority, and experienced overwhelming homesickness.

After my first semester, I reached a breaking point and begged my parents to let me come back home. I was miserable and unsure if I could handle the changes. However, instead of giving in to my pleas, my parents made a tough decision—they encouraged me to stay and finish my freshman year. They knew it was essential for me to face these challenges and grow through the experience.

Their decision to send me back to college was difficult for them, but they believed in my potential and knew that facing these tough times would be valuable life lessons. They pushed me to find my way, even when it seemed impossible, teaching me the importance of perseverance and not giving up when things get difficult.

This experience not only helped me thrive in college but also became a guiding principle in life—a reminder to persist even when the going gets tough. I am forever grateful to my parents for instilling in me this valuable lesson and for their unconditional love and support throughout my journey. Their willingness to push me out of my comfort zone has shaped me into a stronger, more resilient individual.
