Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shatoyia Jones-Medor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Shatoyia, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
In addition to being “Queen of Self Mastery,” I am known for claiming to be “ageless.” Not because I am ashamed of my age, but because I refuse to mentally or psychologically put myself into a box, or allow others to plant seeds of mediocrity and doubt within me. I have fully embodied 1 Timothy 4:12 and 1 Peter 3, which sums out my mindset on how I have learned to be effective / successful when I am THE ONLY in the room. I enjoy being set apart and striving for excellence. In short, life is better in excellence than mediocrity though the responsibility is greater too. Pursuing excellence (being set apart and perhaps having to stand alone) is difficult and the long-term consequences of mediocrity (wanting to fit in and be liked and perhaps not having to stand alone) is difficult…but the spiritual, mental, physical and emotional rewards of excellence far outnumbers those of mediocrity. Choose your hard.
In complementary partnership with my natural personality to put forth efforts to do “the impossible,” it is my relationship to Yahweh, my study of Biblical principle and the practice of my Biblical faith–faith in action–that I have learned to be effective and successful when I am the only one in the room. I know who I am and what I am here for; I am not operating from a fragmented identity, but rather a sense of wholeness with an inner peace you cannot buy; it comes from lived experience. This means I did, and am doing, the work. You cannot try to think yourself into being effective and successful in anything–you have to DO the work, even if you come equipped with some natural ability or personality type that aligns with this. Just start, just do it. You’ll learn something useful to your journey in the process, and hopefully, you’ll apply the lessons learned until it just becomes a natural way of thinking and being. Then, you’ll begin to attract relationships with people and opportunities that are more aligned with this.
As of today, I am more than accustomed to being the ONLY, and though it never affected the high quality of the work or my service, this used to bother me and make me feel isolated and on an island in my journey. Instead of becoming discouraged, I felt compelled to continue to lead by example as to show people of all ages and stages of life what is possible when you operate as a 1 of 1, don’t compare and just work on being your best self. I had to accept that being excellent required me to operate at a higher standard than the majority of humanity, and I cannot envy or compare myself to those who are content with mediocrity, with being stagnant and average. Pursuing excellence, godliness and “being set apart” which I learned will definitely an isolating journey, but it is better to be operating a higher quality of living and reaping the priceless benefits of doing so than being content with the social validation of being average or mediocre and dealing with the consequences of that.
It is also important to acknowledge that some people are not meant to be effective or successful in certain areas of life. If this is your case, your next best option is to partner with or hire someone with this skillset either to mentor you or join your team. This is one of the many high-level skills I have mastered and mentor high achieving women in leadership on at Kingdom Woman Finishing School.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a Louisiana native, born and raised. I was raised in an impoverished environment and single parent household. I left home and moved cross-country to learn and teach skills & pathways towards a higher quality of life. I am a Disciple-of-Christ, new wife, mommy and homemaker. I enjoy spending time with loved ones, traveling and eating good food, leisure reading, dancing/social dancing (kizomba, salsa, kompa, zydeco, line dance, etc.), aerial fitness, nature exploration, horseback riding, gardening, girl chat and finding new ways to improve my quality of living. I also enjoy meaningful conversation and tea tasting. I consider myself a tea connossieur.
My professional experience is extensive with 20+ years in streamlined, efficient and effective operations and communications for strategic growth (community, engagement, revenue + sales) for grassroot, non-profit, small business, corporate and government organizations in a wide range of industries. I also have 20+ years of experience in women-feminine leadership education, skills training and workforce development. I have lived many lives, and my résumé + track record of results reflects commitment to excellence & pivoting. Resourcefulness, entrepreneurship, streamlined communications & operational management and sales are my assets, with my biggest assets being my biblical faith and individuals who speak my name in rooms and submit me for opportunities I didn’t know existed.
Over the last decade, I have done what I felt was necessary in the equitable opportunity, racial equity and poverty reduction space by devoting 20+ years to leadership women’s empowerment (part-time) but prioritizing my work in education, financial literary and poverty reduction full-time, esp. seeing as I come from an impoverished environment and have been entrepreneurial minded all of my life to create a better life for myself and my loved ones and build a career sharing the different paths and opportunities to do so with others. About 5 years ago, I submitted my organization First Ladies of Poverty Foundation with a local pitch contest, and though we did not win a grant with them, we did go on to win other awards, like the American Rescue Plan Award and Black Currency x NeoTribe Award. FLP is now a wealth education brokerage, known as First Generation Wealth Builders, an American Rescue Plan award winner and I have self-published my signature 5 Stages to Building Wealth™ Framework.
Now that I am satisfied with the work, a labor of love and sacrificial service to underrepresented and underserved communities that I have contributed to education, financial literary and poverty reduction spaces, I seek to do what I absolutely love full-time instead of part-time: empower, equip and nurture female visionaries with the leadership training and safe spaces to confidently pursue and skillfully maximize every opportunity for a higher quality of life, as well as fulfilling relationships and life experiences. I also empower them with the confidence and skillsets to maximize their impact and influence in their homes, workplaces and community–without compromising their core values and sacrificing their femininity.
I believe women are the backbone of society, and the most urgent thing I can do right now is to fortify our women with training and safe spaces that support their overall wellbeing and nurture their femininity. Broken, unwhole women leads broken, un-whole relationships which leads to broken families which leads to broken societies. And we can already see the effects of this happening in our world today.
Over the last two decades, I have equipped hundreds and thousands of women around the globe from a plethora of ages and stages of life, backgrounds, socioeconomic status with the confidence, skills, strategic plan and feminine grace to gracefully embrace and navigate all stages of womanhood for healthier and aligned relationships and opportunities, as well as access, pursue and maximize every opportunity for a purposeful and more fulfilling quality of life with a legacy of benevolent impact and influence in their homes, communities and workplaces. In supporting women in discovering their purpose, loving themselves at a higher standard and mastering themselves to become the highest version of themselves, they attract and maximize higher quality relationships, fulfilling life experiences. Because of my hands on, first-hand, hands-on and experiential approach, I know without a doubt that it is not enough to empower women with more opportunities. A woman must also possess the confidence and a sense of self-worth that is unattached to the opportunity to be had to pursue them and the preparation in skills to maximize each opportunity presented to them to be the most effective in their ability to influence and contribute to healthier, whole and positively impactful families, communities and societies.
I have lived many lives, and in this next chapter of my life as a wife, new mommy and homemaker desiring to prioritize my family time without sacrificing my identity as a woman and international women’s advocate, my goal is to empower current and future generations of female leaders to lead and influence without shame, reservation or compromising their values and feminine grace. This is why I founded School of Joie, now Kingdom Woman Finishing School, an 8x award-winning skills training center and wellness center of self-mastery and feminine refinement for high-achieving women in leadership around the world.
Currently, I serve as international women’s advocate and #1 feminine leadership consultant, skills trainer and influence-impact strategist for high achieving women of leadership around the world at Kingdom Woman Finishing School, a feminine skills development and wellness training center I founded for women who lead, influence and impact. I mentor women in the 3’s of feminine leadership with my signature Shatoyia™ framework for feminine leadership success to equip women to walk IN POWER–to lead, influence and impact without compromising their femininity, their core values and their well-being in the process.
The many leadership and “success” programs I had the honor of being a part of or speaking at are often led by men OR led by women who operate predominantly in their masculinity. As a result, the majority of leadership and success programming require women to compromise one of three things to have success: their femininity, their core values (of their highest selves) or their well-being in the process or employ manipulation tactics. The most unique and important part of my signature framework and mentorship program is that I teach women how to lead, impact and succeed without compromising their femininity, core values and their well-being and without manipulation tactics.
Thus, the top 1% of high achieving women in leadership train with me, whether they are homemakers, ministers, artists, health and wellness professionals, educators, coaches, trainers, corporate career ladies, socialites, politicians, scientists. I have even had the honor of training African and European royal family members. I offer on-campus training in Springfield, MA and in-person training via travel, as well our signature online training academy, Secure Your Crown Academy. Some high-level skills I teach include but are not limited to: Communications for Public Speaking, International Business Development, Brand Development for Influencers and Public Figures, Confidence, Self-Love & Self-Esteem, Feminine Wellness, Health & Hygiene, Homemaking, Image Consulting: Character Development & Personal Styling (Confidence, Elegance, Grace, Poise, Godly Femininity), Money Management & Wealth Building, Vision Building & Legacy Preparation, World Languages and Culture; Negotiations and Diplomacy and so much more. A new training and masterclass are included every month.
In addition to my ministry at Kingdom Woman Finishing School, I am launching my #AskShatoyia in August 2025, my streaming series, where women and men around the world can ask me anything and get my opinion and/or Biblical guidance. Women can also enjoy unadulterated feminine education, resources and Biblical femininity challenges to learn their non-sexual value, develop a unique natural feminine aura, position themselves to attract healthier, aligned relationships, fulfilling life experiences, enjoy womanhood & access rare luxury on Earth: power, joy and peace–with God as their strategist.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe resourcefulness, humility and creative problem solving are the most impactful qualities and skills to have. As for areas of knowledge, I believe that Biblical principles and faith, my discernment / intuition, and business development / sales were most impactful on my journey. I know I was only asked for three, but right alongside all of this is commitment and consistency, even when progress and results are slow. It is the key differentiator between a dream and it being brought to reality.
My advice for folks early in their journey in terms of how they can develop and improve in these areas are to get a mentor with a track record of getting the results they want or who are living the life that they want to live. I would also say not to try to “figure it all out” or be perfect before starting–just start. Start and you’ll learn along the way. But the best way to learn anything you don’t know is to invest in training and mentorship. I believe you get the best lessons from lived experience, and the only way to get lived experience is to just do the work–just start. If you are a woman, a woman in leadership or an aspiring female leader, I recommend starting with Kingdom Woman Finishing School and our signature program, the Secure Your Crown Academy.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
I have read thousands of books in my lifetime, and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon. Out of all the books, the Holy Bible has been the most important book in all stages of my life.
Nuggets of wisdom:
~ I have found that all of the self-help books I have read are rephrases of Biblical principle.
~ Biblical law and principle is consistent and relevant for the entire span of human history and is not dependent or affected by upon culture, politics or social constructs.
~ Love is the answer to all of the world’s issues and is the greatest Biblical law.
~ The truth will always remain no matter what. It is not loud, forceful or fueled by hate.
~ Submission is for men and women, and the men must lead in it by submission to Yahweh before asking for it from another man or a woman.
~Women may live in a man’s world, but we hold the power. We just don’t know it.
~It is not the sinner Yahweh hates. It’s the sin.
~ Love does not mean a relationship. You can love and not form a relationship with someone.
